God of Second Chances

Jonah 3

Once Jonah was released from his “underwater excursion,” God’s grace continued to be at work by offering him a second chance. Through Jonah’s second chance we also get to see that Nineveh also received a second chance. That is certainly part of the good news for us in Jesus, we also receive “second chances.” Like Jonah and Nineveh the question will be, how will we use these opportunities and gifts from God?

Who Knows? Will God Yet Relent and Turn With Compassion?

Jonah 2:10-3:10

Jonah has a change in heart that leads to a change in location - and a second chance at obedience. He delivers the LORD's message to the great city of Ninevah and the citizens there have their own change of heart. We then see the LORD act true to His heart as He extends mercy to all, and withholds the destruction that was deserved.

Jonah had thought that getting tossed overboard would be his end, but God wasn’t done with him. It was in the depths where there was no hope that Jonah would finally encounter the God he was running from. In this encounter, in Jonah’s prayer, we see the start of a change that would once again lead Jonah to another one of God’s surprises.

Facing The Storms Of Life, Part II - Together In A Broken World

Jonah 1:7–17

By running from the LORD’s call, Jonah found himself in a life-threatening storm. Only now does he wake up to the fact that the ship’s crew are affected by that same storm! In the midst of this, the LORD is at work: Jonah’s heart is opened to consider others, the sailors hear about the LORD and we all see a foreshadowing of the Gospel of God’s Grace!

God and the Storm

Jonah may have run from God, but God wasn’t running from Jonah. Sometimes our sin is the cause for the storm in life, and sometime the storm is a result of some other sin. The truth of the gospel truth is that there is always grace in the storm if we we’re willing to see it and let God be God.
