Matthew 6: 9-13

Join us this week as we wrap up our summer series on the Lord's Prayer titled, "Teach Us to Pray" with an intentional time of worship and prayer. We will begin with an abbreviated time of worship framed by the P.R.A.Y. acronym (Praise, Repent, Ask, Yield) followed by a time of stepping into various prayer practices. There you are invited to respond in prayer at a variety of prayer stations that we trust will serve as guides into the presence of God. Come join us for this unique and powerful experience.

A Doxology

Matthew 6:9-13

The church has prayed this doxology (words of glory to God), “for thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever” for centuries. It is hard to actually know whether or not these words were originally included in the prayer, but what we do know is that they encapsulate an offering of praise to God in response to everything Jesus has taught us to pray. Join us as we seek to make these words our own.

Kingdom, Power, Glory

Matthew 6: 9-13

Join us as we continue our summer sermon series on the Lord's Prayer titled "Teach Us to Pray." This week we consider the ending doxology of Jesus' prayer, "for yours in the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever." Although this doxology was not included in the earliest manuscripts of Matthew's Gospel, it was added very early on in church history to help end the prayer in a declaration of praise. We will explore how it beautifully brings the prayer to a close in a radically counter cultural way.

Asking – Part 3 – Mercy & Deliverance

Matthew 4:1–4, 6:9, 13, 26:40–41; Hebrews 2:18, 4:15-16

Key Verse: Hebrews 4:16 - Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.

The “temptation” that Jesus warns us about in this petition is not simply about behaviors to be avoided. All through the Scriptures we see that our behaviors and words flow from what our heart trusts. To experience transformation of heart, we will need both Mercy and Deliverance.

Deliver Us from Evil

Matthew 6:13

This week we move from asking for forgiveness and help to forgive, to asking God for the ability to not need to be forgiven in the first place. The words Jesus invites us into this week are a prayer of humility acknowledging our need for help, and a prayer for strength trusting that God has the ability where we do not in facing the evils of life and the devil himself.
