There is a massive contrast in current Royal PR strategies this week, and nowhere is it more obvious than in Princess Catherine’s solo trip to Italy. Touching down in Reggio Emilia for her first overseas engagement since being in remission, Catherine has put on a masterclass in soft power - from speaking Italian to school children to learning how to make pasta. It's a complete return to the narrative of regality and servitude traditionally set by the Palace.
Meanwhile in Montecito, Harry and Meghan are lying in the bed of their own creation. Between reports of the Australian government withdrawing eight million Australian dollars worth of funding from the Invictus Games, and rumours of a funding crisis, the couple’s approach is feeling increasingly unconvincing and unrelatable to many. Then, spookily coinciding with the Italian tour, Harry writes a scathing piece in The New Statesman about modern Britain and the rise of Anti-Semitism, leading some commentators to conclude that he was trying to steal the spotlight.
