Continuing from last week's message, we take a look at how to pray as modeled by Jesus in what is commonly known as the Lord's Prayer.

As much as you want to resist any ill-feelings toward the individual you find that deep down their success threatens your happiness while their setbacks bring you satisfaction. It’s not that you don’t want them to do well; you just don’t want them to do better than you. That’s your David!

Many people believe that God has a plan for their life. Knowing that is one thing but submitting to that plan is another. Israel desired a king. Saul is who they wanted but David is who they really needed. It's time to move on from Saul (what you want) and move on with David (what you really need).

King David’s life was on the upswing. His domestic and foreign enemies had been vanquished. He had made all the right moves as king and garnered the love and respect of the people of Israel. He desired to bring to the capital city the most important artifact and symbol of Israel’s heritage: The Ark of the Covenant. The Ark represented God's manifest presence on the earth. David wanted to bring the Ark of the Covenant out of exile and place it back in operation. We should desire the same in our lives.

In John 5, the story is told of Jesus healing a lame man sitting on his mat at the Pool of Bethesda. He asks the question, “Do you want to be made well?” Do you realize that it’s God’s desire for you to be a made well. The Lord is able to bring healing and restoration in all areas of your life. He is able to lift you up out of any situation. If you’re still lying down on your mat, what’s keeping you from getting up?

We often think about all the perfect things we expect to experience in our lives: a perfect childhood, perfect friends, finding that perfect someone, landing the perfect job, buying that perfect house, having the perfect children and then life happens. We find ourselves thinking or saying “I was NOT expecting that!” In John 16:33 Jesus made it clear that for those who follow Him, life will come with its share of problems. Life is challenging enough when that unexpected moment only touches the small, relatively insignificant areas of our lives but far more devastating when it invades the truly important things.
