In Jeremiah 29, the Israelites had been exiled from Jerusalem to Babylon and believed that the Lord was going to bring them out and restore them back within two years. God tells them in His letter that He will but after 70 years. In the meantime, He tells them what to do, while they wait and is still telling us to do today.

We all desire hope and encouragement knowing that our future is secure especially in the midst of challenging circumstances or dealing with uncertainties. For this promise to become more meaningful to us, we must understand it in light of its context and what it meant to God's people when it was first given.
