Abby Shipley is a farmwife and mom living in Central Ohio. She is the owner of The Ginger Hill Farmer, a farm graphic tee boutique. Abby
left her 20-year career in corporate retail last fall to come back to our farm and focus on The Ginger Hill Farmer.
Abby & her husband are operating as first-generation farmers. The Shipleys grow corn, soybeans, and barley, and feed out Holstein steers.
Although Abby's been around her farm for many years, she was never able to be fully involved in it because of her off the farm job. It's been a learning curve for sure but it's allowed her to somewhat rediscover herself and what she loves most, (being outside and on their farm). Abby states she's excited, and maybe a little nervous, for her first harvest actually out doing the things!
I know I can relate to her story and why I wanted to bring her on the podcast so she can share her relatable story with you.
I love how she shared some wins she's been able to lean on to "balance" helping on the farm and running a business by adapting to digital from paper planners and looking a day ahead.
Here are some other helpful tips she's implemented with her corporate exit strategy for building a business from scratch:
leaning on things that make her, her best self
reaching out to close friends/family
dig in to review what has worked & audit areas that can be tweakedTune into the full episode to snag the discussion around going about replacing benefits and making ends meet!
