  • Haunt Weekly - Episode 75 - Japes Palles on Cancerous Actors

    Send us Fan Mail

You might remember we sat down with Japes a few times in the past. For example Episode 59, Episode 46 and Episode 43 if you're curious. You migh also remember that, on Episode 65, we discussed toxic actors and repeatedly said we wishes we could have Japes on this subject.

Well, our Japes prayers have been answered as the actor guru sat down with us to discuss toxic actors and everything we said wrong.

To that end, he started with correcting the term "toxic actors" saying he prefers "cancerous actors" for reasons he explains very convincingly. We also went through several stories where he was forced to deal with toxic actors including the infamous "Star Trek Nerd!!!!" incident.

Really, this is just one episode you have to listen to to believe and it's definitely one that you do not want to miss!

For more on Japes, check out his Facebook page here and definitely see about recruting him for your haunt!

    Special Guest: Japes Palles.

  • Haunt Weekly - Episode 74 - Women in Haunting #4 - Sylvia Vicchiullo

    Send us Fan Mail

This week on Haunt Weekly we are continuing our women in haunting series (it's been far, far too long) and sitting down with Sylvia Vicchiullo, the cast managager for A Petrified Forest in central Florida.

In this interview we learn a great deal about Sylvia and her history with haunting. We discuss how she go into the industry and what were some of the lessons she had to learn coming into the industry.

To that end, Sylvia's story is a very interesting one. Her first role in haunting was, effectively, a management role. The haunt needed a cast manager and, due to her theater background, she was picked for the job.

Though she quickly fell in love with the industry, there were a few speedbumps along the way.

Definitely, this is one episode you do not want to miss!

  • Haunt Weekly - Episode 73 - Von Grimm Productions

    Send us Fan Mail

This week on Haunt Weekly, we're kicking off interview month as we sit down with Matt Scott of Von Grimm Productions.

Matt is a virtual wizard when it comes to masks and makeup effects for the haunt industry. He places an emphasis on creating high-quality looks that are both fast and affordable, meeting both of the needs that the industry has.

In this interview, we talke a great deal about not only Scott's business but also his philosophy when it comes to creating makeup and mask designs. This philosophy focuses heavily on what the actor will be doing, how long they'll be visible and under what conditions.

Basically, since money and time are two precious commodities when it comes to haunt makeup, it's important not to waste them on actors and spots that don't need them.

But, don't take my word for that. Let Matt explain it to you much better in this interview!

  • Haunt Weekly - Episode 71 - Our Haunt Wishlist

    Send us Fan Mail

The idea for this week's episode comes from one of our listeners and man is it a great one (Thank you Maximus Christian Bryant!). So good, it may well become a miniseries.

Basically, as New Orleans residents, we've been to nearly every haunt along the gulf coast. However, due to time and geograpny, there are many, many haunts across the country we've not been able to go to even though we've heard a great deal about.

So, we're making a list and checking it, well, just once once. But it's by no means a complete list. It's limited to U.S. haunts and, even then, it's only a fraction of the names that came up.

So, take a trip with us as we sit down and go over the haunts we haven't been to but would really love to. (Note: This list is in absolutey no particular order than what came up in conversation. Definitely NOT a top 10 list or anything like that!)

    This week's episode includes:

All in all, this is one episode of haunts that we can't wait to check out some day, as soon as they invent the teleporter!

  • Haunt Weekly - Episode 70 - Dwayne Sanburn 2 (13th Gate)

    Send us Fan Mail

This week on Haunt Weekly we are back with Dwayne Sanburn of the 13th Gate Haunted House in Baton Rogue, Louisiana but this time we're not talking haunts, we're talking room escapes, specifically the 13th Gate Escape.

That's right, this week is all about Dwayne's push into room escapes and both the lessons he learned in the process.

The 13th Gate was one of the first haunted attractions to open a room escape agame and one of the first in the entire gulf coast region. Known for their intricate detail and complex storylines, the 13th Gate has long set a high bar for room escapes but, as Dwayne explains, it wasn't an easy road.

So, if you're a haunter thinking about opening a room escape, this is a must-listen episode. Get a sneak peek at what's in store for you as you embark on your adventure!

As we wrap up this episode, we talk about another venture the 13th Gate has become involved in, the Apocalypse World Tour, which brings some off-season revenue to his haunt.

Thank you Dwayne for the time and hope to have you back on soon!

    Send us Fan Mail

This week on Haunt Weekly, we sit down with a legend in the industry, Dwayne Sanburn of the 13th Gate Haunted House, Necropolis 13, 13th Gate Room Escapes and Midnight Productions.

In this episode we sit down with Dwayne and discuss his haunt history including how he got started in the business, how he opened his first haunt and the path to having one fo the haunts that is consistently listed on top ten haunted attraction lists across the country.

What we learn is that Dwayne's path to haunt success was not a linear one, it was a journey that involved a lot of hard work, more than a dash of inspiration and suffering through a few setbacks as well.

So take a moment and spend the hour with us as we talk with Dwayne about his haunted attraction(s) and set the stage for our conversation next week about his room escape ventures.

    Hope you enjoy!

This week on Haunt Weekly, we're taking a trip down embarassing memory lane.

We've never claimed to be perfect here, heck, we never claim to be experts. Just passionate people who have been doing this for a lot longer than sanity should allow.

And since we are mere mortals we've made a LOT of mistakes. We could probably fill half a dozen episodes like this one but we wanted to sit down and discuss some of our biggest screw ups, blunders and mistakes.

So put on your headset and walk with us as we walk the halls of failures past. It should be fun, if not at least somewhat educational.
