"The history of New Orleans is filled with colorful characters, from pirates and priests to musicians, authors and artists…but if you ask anyone who the most notorious individual in the history of the city is, they’re gonna tell you, its the infamous Madame Marie Delphine LaLaurie."

Madame Delphine LaLaurie was a wealthy socialite in 19th-century New Orleans, infamous for the horrific treatment of enslaved people in her mansion. In 1834, a fire at her Royal Street home led to the discovery of tortured individuals, solidifying her reputation as one of the city's most sinister figures. Today, the LaLaurie Mansion stands as one of the most haunted and infamous buildings in the French Quarter. Though privately owned and not open to the public, it remains a focal point on ghost tours, drawing visitors intrigued by its dark history.

The image of the St. Louis Cathedral protruding up into the sky from behind Jackson Square has become one of New Orleans's most iconic images. The site, which sits in the heart of the French Quarter, was once the center of government for the Crescent City, but today it is filled with tourists on their way to grab beignets, get the cards read or take a carriage ride through the city. Of course, the square wasn't always this bustling with energy and, as a result, some claim the famed cathedral is haunted by the spirits of clergy who once walked these streets.

The Old Ursuline Convent sits at 1100 Chartres Street in the heart of New Orleans's French Quarter. It is the oldest surviving building in the Mississippi River Valley; and as such, it is a stunning example of the architecture of the French colonial period in the United States. Today the Convent is no longer home to the Ursuline Order of Sisters, but rather is a part of the Catholic Cultural Heritage Center, alongside the iconic St. Louis Cathedral, and is open for tours several days a week; however, according to New Orleans legend, it is also the home to one the city's most enduring pieces of local lore. A tale that claims the very first vampires to ever come to America once called the Ursuline Convent's attic home.
