Opened in 1902 as the Illinois Asylum for the Incurable Insane, the Peoria State Hospital treated thousands of patients in its 70+ years of operation. Was it a place of compassion and healing, or was it, as Ghost Asylum described it, a place where "countless people died undergoing barbaric medical experiments”?

All I know is that whatever walks there, does NOT walk alone.
