In the first pod of 2025, Bill and Alex chat with UND Champions Club Director Val Sussex about all the alumni events surrounding UND Hockey’s upcoming series at Arizona State as well as how to get involved in the Champions Club moving forward (:55). Then, the guys discuss the goings-on around NoDak’s winter sports programs and detail new coach hires for soccer and football (17:02). On the B-Side (37:20), Spurs have a not-so-merry holiday period ahead of the second Heinert-Chaves Derby in a month, while the Steelers and Patriots both end the regular season on depressing notes.

The next Head Football Coach at the University of North Dakota Eric Schmidt joins Tim & Paul to give a glimpse of what has been happening since taking the job.

UND Football Offensive Coordinator Isaac Fruechte joined hawk talk to discuss the process of naming the new head coach and how they were able to recruit players because the team is stable.  They also talked about Bo Belquist being an all american.  They talked about how the team was no consistent enough on offense through the season.  With the recruiting class they were able to get players that fit what the team needs.

Paul Sather UND Mens Basketball Coach joined Hawk Talk to discuss how his team has been playing while they have been on the road for so long.  Turnovers have been the issue.  The team has also been having problems with points off turnovers and 2nd chance points.  Previewed the game against Alabama.  Stressed that the non conference schedule gets them ready for conference games.  Sather also said that they need to work on getting the defense rolling and being consistent.

Brad Berry Head Hockey Coach joined Hawk talk to discuss the series against St. Cloud State.  He also talked about how the players write to pen pals and to veterans in addition to practicing and their studies.  Berry also talked about the teddy bear toss and how with the last 2 weekends games they are 2 points out of 1st place.  Berry also talked about the game winning goal Saturday night when James won the race to the puck and found Schmaltz for the game winner.  The team is now on their holiday break and they have an off ice program to follow while they are on break.

This week, Bill and Alex look back at the steps that led to the hiring of Eric Schmidt as UND’s new head football coach (2:42) before discussing hockey’s pre-Christmas surge (18:13) and the non-conference highs and lows of men’s and women’s basketball (27:46).
