  • Financial Responsibility In Relationships

Financial Obligations in Relationships — Love, Money & Responsibility

Love may bring two people together, but navigating money can reveal some of the biggest challenges in a relationship. 💰❤️

Who should pay for what? Is splitting everything 50/50 truly fair? Does earning more mean you should contribute more? And when does helping your partner become carrying the weight of their financial responsibilities?

In Episode 3 of Healing In Color, we’re unpacking the complicated relationship between love, money, expectations, and accountability. We explore the difference between equality and equity, the importance of financial compatibility, and how unspoken expectations can turn generosity into resentment.

We’re also having an honest conversation about supporting a partner through difficult financial seasons without sacrificing your own stability, setting healthy financial boundaries, and recognizing when money becomes a source of guilt, manipulation, or imbalance.

Because financial responsibility isn't just about how much money you make. It's about communication, shared values, mutual respect, and the willingness to build something sustainable together.

    In this episode, we discuss:

    • 💵 50/50 versus income-based contributions: What does fairness really look like?

    • ❤️ Love, gender roles, and expectations about who should provide.

    • 🧠 Financial boundaries, accountability, and emotional responsibility.

    • ⚖️ The difference between supporting your partner and enabling unhealthy patterns.

    • 🗣️ How to have uncomfortable conversations about bills, debt, emergencies, and financial expectations.

    • 🤝 Building a partnership rooted in transparency, teamwork, and mutual respect.

Whether you're dating, in a committed relationship, or preparing to build a future with someone, this conversation challenges you to look beyond romantic feelings and examine the practical realities of building a life together.

The question isn't simply whether you love each other. It's whether you're building a relationship where both people feel respected, supported, and financially responsible.

  • Consistency: Showing Up for Yourself & Others

What does consistency really look like when life gets hard?

In this episode of Healing In Color, we take a deeper look at consistency—not just as discipline or productivity, but as something that impacts our mental health, relationships, and the way we show up for ourselves.

For many of us in the Black community, we were taught to be strong, keep pushing, work twice as hard, and never let people see us struggle. But what happens when constantly “pushing through” turns into exhaustion?

We’re talking about the pressure placed on Black men to always be strong and provide, the expectations placed on Black women to carry everything and everyone, and how those experiences can affect the way we handle emotions, vulnerability, and relationships.

We’ll also get into the difference between consistency and perfection, why intermittent attention can be confused with love in relationships, and the importance of having people who consistently communicate, show up, respect boundaries, and make an effort.

    Because sometimes the question isn't:

    “Why can't I stay consistent?”

    Maybe the better question is:

“What am I carrying that's making consistency difficult?”

And when it comes to relationships:

“Are you in love with who someone consistently is, or attached to who they occasionally become?”

This episode is about giving yourself grace while still holding yourself accountable—and learning that consistency doesn't mean never falling off.

    Sometimes consistency means coming back.

    * Why empathy and accountability must coexist.
