In this episode I interview my good friend and colleague, Dr. Brian Bernier. Dr. Brian Bernier is a Naturopathic Doctor currently located in Chicago, IL. He's passionate about helping others realize more of their potential in life. He has a background in Psychology, is a lifetime Psi Chi Member, and has contributed in psychological research. He is particularly interested in chronic autoimmune conditions, but also loves to help his patients naturally reverse conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, and cholesterol issues.

In this episode I interview Steve Farrar. Steve has been involved in specialty agriculture and organic food production systems for his entire professional life.  He has been active in various aspects of mycology and mushroom production for over 35 years.  His initial focus was on the production of specialty, gourmet mushrooms for sale to restaurants and fresh produce markets.  He has been involved in the planning, startup and operation of several mushroom farms and has served as a consultant and mushroom equipment broker to mushroom farms all over the world. He has commercially produced many mushroom species as fresh produce items including Oyster, Enoki, Maitake, Shiitake, King Trumpet and Shimeji mushrooms.  Starting in 2007, his focus turned to the production and processing of selected species of medicinal, nutraceutical mushrooms for use as functional food and dietary supplement ingredients.   M2 Ingredients, Inc. (M2i), the company he cofounded with Dr. Sandra Carter in 2010, is currently growing and processing 11 species of functional/medicinal mushrooms in an indoor farm located in Carlsbad, CA utilizing a proprietary Solid State Fermentation process that consistently produces high-quality mushroom powders.  Development of this process and selection of the species and substrate for production involved multiple trips to Japan, Taiwan and Europe as well as consultation and cooperation with many mycological colleagues. M2i provides the mushroom powders used in our retail brand lines: OM Mushroom Superfoods (human), Equine Matrix (horses), and Canine Matrix (pets). M2i also provides organic mushroom powders as bulk wholesale ingredients to other formulators of dietary supplement and health food products.

In this episode I interview Dr. Moshe Daniel Block. Moshe Daniel Block, ND, HMC, VDP is the author of The Revolution of Naturopathic Medicine: Remaining True to Our Philosophy, a book about the philosophy and practice of naturopathic medicine, and Holistic Counseling – Introducing the Vis Dialogue, a book about a breakthrough healing method uniting the worlds of Mind-Body Medicine & Psychology. He graduated from the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine (Toronto, Canada) in 2000. Dr Block then went on to complete the Homeopathic Master Clinician course with Louis Klein, FSHom, in 2003. He specializes in autoimmune illness and myasthenia gravis, a disease he was personally diagnosed as having and from which he has healed himself. He teaches the very wisdom and knowledge that helped him heal himself and others in his Holistic Counseling certification program for NDs (holistic-counseling.ca).

In this episode I interview Josette Tkacik. In 2011, former professional dancer and new mom, Josette Tkacik was diagnosed with severe sudden onset of advanced rheumatoid arthritis, an excruciatingly painful and disabling auto immune disease for which current western medicine claims there is no cure. The only available treatment is radical and life shortening pharmaceuticals aimed (at best) to slow the progression of the disease. Ultimately Josette paved her own path, and self-healed RA without the assistance of Western Medicine. She was declared a Medical Miracle in 2016 as No Evidence of Disease could be found in bloodwork. She went on to become the Most successful zumba instructor in the world. She is a Santa Barbara Hero - Congressional award recipient and a top 3 author on DailyOM.  Josette passionately shares her wisdom to empower others to find the hero within.

In this episode I interview Andrew DeAngelo. Andrew is a visionary leader with a proven track record of enacting systemic social change and developing best practices in cannabis — he is the very definition of a trailblazer and someone who has proudly walked the road less traveled.

During his almost 13-year tenure at Harborside, where he currently serves as an advisor, Andrew has pioneered legal cannabis business processes and provided groundbreaking political engagement and thought leadership to the cannabis community. Andrew also lends his vast cannabis business and political expertise as a consultant for hire to the global community at large, including several strategic partnerships with the world's leading cannabis-centric service firms.

Andrew led the design and development of gold-standard cannabis retail by innovating many “firsts” for the industry. These include: introducing CBD medicines to heal severely epileptic children as documented in Discovery Channel’s Weed Wars, implementing the first lab-testing program in the history of cannabis dispensing, creating child-resistant packaging for edibles, standardizing inventory tracking, initiating senior outreach, and successfully preventing the federal government from seizing Harborside in forfeiture actions against the company in 2012.

Andrew is co-founder and Chairperson of the Board for the non-profit Last Prisoner Project (LPP). LPP’s mission is to free and re-integrate all cannabis prisoners on earth into mainstream society. Since its inception in 2019, LPP has successfully re-integrated the formerly incarcerated and 2020 will be the year LPP frees its first constituent. 

Andrew is also a founding Board of Directors member of the California Cannabis Industry Association (CCIA), the premier cannabis industry trade association in California, where he served from 2013 to 2020 building the organization from zero to 500 member companies. CCIA continues to represent the industry in California as it works on reforming Prop 64 to improve the legal and regulatory framework for cannabis trade throughout the state. 

Graduating with honors from Chapman University with a BFA degree in Communications & Theatre, Andrew began his political career as an activist while studying for his MFA in acting at the American Conservatory Theatre in San Francisco. Over two decades as an activist, Andrew worked on a variety of voter initiatives which legalized medical and adult-use cannabis in San Francisco, Washington D.C, and the State of California. 

Andrew and his brother Steve recently formed DeAngelo Brothers Productions (DAB), which intends to produce, support, and distribute cannabis content over a variety of mediums and platforms. DAB’s mission is “to create new mythologies for cannabis in pop culture, smashing the stigma of the lazy stoner and replacing it with fresh and positive representations of cannabis in society.”

As a speaker, Andrew has appeared at the MJBusiness Daily Conference in Las Vegas, ICBC, NCIA conferences in Chicago/Boston/San Jose, Emerald Conference, and the U.S Cannabis Conference in Miami. In this episode I interview Jeff Chilton. Jeff Chilton, raised in Pacific Northwest, studied ethno-mycology at the University of Washington in the late sixties and started working on a commercial mushroom farm in Olympia, Washington in 1973. During the next 10 years he became the production manager, responsible for the cultivation of over 2 million pounds of agaricus mushrooms per year and was also involved in the research and development of shiitake, oyster and enoki mushrooms which resulted in the earliest US fresh shiitake sales in 1978. In the late seventies he was a founder of Mycomedia, which held 4 mushroom conferences in the Pacific Northwest. These educational conferences brought together educators and experts in mushroom identification, ethnomycology, and mushroom cultivation. During this period Jeff co-authored the highly acclaimed book, The Mushroom Cultivator, which was published in 1983. In the 1980’s he operated a mushroom spawn business and in 1989 he started Nammex, a business that introduced medicinal mushrooms to the US nutritional supplement industry. He traveled extensively in China during the 1990’s, attending conferences and visiting research facilities and mushroom farms. In 1997 he organized the first organic mushroom production seminar in China. Jeff’s company, Nammex was the first to offer a complete line of Certified Organic mushroom extracts to the US nutritional supplement industry. Nammex extracts are used by many supplement companies and are noted for their high quality based on scientific analysis of the active compounds.
