In this episode, three short form interviews with filmmakers whose films are screening at the Provincetown Film Society & Festival:
1) Four-time Emmy and Peabody award-winning director Marc Levin talks about, It's Basic. His documentary on basic income pilot programs asks the question, can guaranteed income eradicate child poverty and level the racial playing field through community-centric solutions?
2) Directors Jesse Short Bull and Laura Tomaselli talk about their documentary Lakota Nation vs. United States. The documentary tells of the century-long struggle to reclaim the Black Hills, sacred land stolen in violation of treaty agreements.
Through clips of Hollywood films and TV clips we see the reinforcement of the same stereotypes that justified the stealing of land, the abuses of residential schools and other injustices done to indigenous Americans. It’s a story of reckoning, resilience and hope.
3) Filmmaker Tunde Skoran talks about her film, WHO I AM NOT, about the lives of two South African intersex people living in a gender binary world. About 150 million people worldwide are born with intersex traits, that’s about 1.7 percent of the population world wide.
