Is this normal? Is this how healing is supposed to feel? Is this what’s supposed to happen after a session, a constellation, a remedy? Am I doing this right?

All questions that insinuate: I will heal if I just get it right.

I’ve been thinking a lot about the space between expectations and reality. The birth we thought we’d have. The relationship we thought would unfold differently. The money that was supposed to flow. The symptoms we thought we’d be done with by now. The way healing was supposed to go.

I’ve certainly found myself seeped in the disappointment of unrealized expectations…thinking:

I did everything right, and yet here I am.

Life seems to have a way of throwing a wrench in our plans. It gives us what we need not what we want, so it seems.

But maybe healing isn’t about getting to the other side of something, maybe those wrenches are here to help us turn towards that which we’re avoiding, running from, escaping.

Maybe it’s about learning to hold the polarities of life; the grief and the love, the fear and the gratitude, the darkness and the light.

And maybe healing is really asking us to practice seeing how all that we’re asking for is already here waiting to be witnessed, received and appreciated. And when we do that, our nervous system starts to learn that what we want is safe to fully receive..

I think when we ask, is this normal? Is this how it’s supposed to go?

We’re really looking for permission to accept with where we are.

From what I’ve learned, the more we can accept where we are, the more easeful the next step forward becomes.

Last year it was wildfires and air pollution - this years it’s big storms, floods, and whirling tornados.

And I don’t know about you but this is happening inside and out.

The last few weeks especially, it’s felt like everything that wasn’t firmly planted has been shaken loose.

Anything that wasn’t meant to carry forward, or wasn’t stable enough to hold the next iteration of life was made known.

In the midst of a big shift in our personal life, we were temporarily hit with the victimhood of

“Just when we thought things were going to get better…life happened yet again.”

In this weeks podcast I’m sharing a glimpse into the changes we’ve been navigating as my husband returns to work after two years of stay-at-home-dadding - and my return to self and receiving support.

I talk about the lessons from nearly ten years of building a practice through burn out, self-doubt, and unrealistic expectations.

We’ll also explore survival mode and what healing might unexpectedly look like after making a change that you thought was going to make everything better.

But most importantly - how our perspective shapes our experience.

Our final Matridonal of the podcast series is the beautiful, boundaried, Vernix!

Umbilical cord is our third Matridonal remedy of this series and I found myself sitting with her this morning as I woke up.

I wrote rough notes as they percolated in my mind, with this final sentence on the page:

It really carries the energy of being able to release what no longer serves you because you can finally see what’s possible, a new reality.

Umbilical cord brings us back to the final point of separation from the womb. It marks both a wound and the beginning of a new life on earth - and if you’ve ever had the opportunity to hold a newborn baby that is a moment full of potential and wonder.

Today we are diving into the waters of Amniotic Fluid!

This matridonal remedy represents the waters of our first home, the womb, and the foundation of our earliest experience of safety, surrender, and connection.

Dip your toes into the matridonal remedies with me over the next few weeks!

The Matridonals, or the gifts of the mother, are homeopathic remedies made from placenta, amniotic fluid, vernix, umbilical cord, and breast milk. We also often include folliculinum and oxytocinum in there!
