On this episode of the HCP, Larry and Drew are on location in Waxahatchie, TX for the Multiplication Workshop with Dr. David DeVries. Dr. DeVries has written and been teaching this material for over 10 years and most of those attending this conference have been through the material before and even taught it. So for many this was a refresher course.

One the HCP, today we welcome Pastor Travis Matthews for a conversation about pastoring his childhood church. He’s been at Graves Memorial in North Little Rock, AR as pastor for nearly 20 years and has grown up in ministry with this body from Student Pastor to Senior Pastor.

Travis shared with us how God has been using his church to connect to a local church nearby in serving the community through a food pantry and farmers market. They also have a GED program they connect the community to. We loved  hearing how creative and compassionate Travis and his leaders have become to love their neighbors through ministry weekends and community outreach.

On this episode of HCP Larry and Drew welcome veteran Contemporary Christian Music artist Ginny Owens to discuss her story and leadership lessons learned in the church.  Ginny lost her eyesight early in life, but that has not slowed her down one bit. She has written and performed Christian music for the last 20 years on the road and releasing music to CCM radio.

We asked Ginny to tell us what her experience been like in the church as someone with disabilities and what we can learn from her perspective. She also shared with us how to honor and receive persons with disabilities in our churches.

Ginny just released a new book called “Singing in the Darkness” and an EP of songs for each chapter of the book. She shares about our need for creativity in the church and releasing the giftings of creative people in the church to share the love of Jesus with the staff and leadership.

Ginny shared one of her new songs with us on the podcast and it was a first for us, yet a beautiful and humbling moment.

Rethinking Discipleship

On today’s Healthy Church Podcast, Larry and Drew welcome Church planter and coach (with the Timothy Initiative). Kevin shares his heart about the #1 problem with discipleship in the church today. We focus on information instead of obedience and therefore raise men and women full of knowledge that often fall short in living that knowledge out in our lives.

Kevin also defines the church, the ecclesia and how church planting needs to change from the strategies of buildings and budgets and focus more on discipleship and evangelism. It will be from there that we plant churches, not the other way around.
