What happens when you spend much of your life believing that something about you needs to be fixed?
For Sanjay Patel, that was a reality he wrestled with for years.
Born with a physical disability, Sanjay grew up facing physical limitations while also dealing with the emotional weight of feeling different. Being sheltered by his family came from a place of love and protection, but it also left him struggling with independence, confidence, and the belief that he could live life on his own terms.
A conversation with his doctor at 21 became one of the first major turning points in his life when he was told that he didn't need to be “fixed”—he could simply live his life.
Years later, becoming a father changed his perspective even more.
In this episode of Hear 4 You, Sanjay opens up about his childhood, his disability, his relationship with his parents, the friendships that carried him through difficult periods, becoming a father, and the process of finally learning to believe in himself.
We also talk about his podcast Motivation Station, which grew from his desire to meet people, understand what motivates them, and create genuine conversations about life.
Sanjay shares what he's learned about recognizing one-sided relationships, surrounding yourself with people who truly care, pursuing your dreams even when you feel behind, and understanding that your circumstances don't have to define who you become.
Most importantly, Sanjay leaves listeners with a powerful message:
Believe in yourself. Find the right people. And with the right people beside you, you can become unstoppable.
This is a conversation about disability—but it's also about something much bigger: learning to accept yourself, finding your people, and finally giving yourself permission to chase the life you want.

In Part Two of my conversation with Carlie Sterling, we continue the story of her journey through an incredibly difficult and abusive marriage and the events that ultimately led her to walk away.
Carlie opens up about the moment everything changed when law enforcement arrived at her home, the shocking discoveries that followed, and the difficult emotional process of accepting that the relationship she had spent years fighting to save could no longer continue.
We talk about manipulation, coercive control, narcissistic behavior, setting boundaries, gray rocking, harassment after separation, and the challenges that can continue even after a relationship has officially ended.
But more importantly, we talk about what comes next.
Carlie shares how she began reclaiming her independence, rebuilding her life, recognizing the patterns she had previously been unable to see, and learning that she didn't have to continue living according to someone else's expectations.
One of the most powerful parts of the conversation comes when Carlie explains why she chose to change her last name after her divorce. Rather than returning to the name she had before marriage, she chose a completely new name for herself — Sterling — creating something that represented her own identity and her own choices.
And that's ultimately what this episode is about:
Choosing yourself.
Carlie's story is a reminder that it is never too late to leave an unhealthy situation, reclaim your identity, and build a life that actually belongs to you.
This episode contains discussions of abuse, infidelity, sexual abuse material, stalking, harassment, and other difficult subjects. Listener discretion is advised.
This is Part Two of a two-part conversation. If you haven't heard Part One, I recommend listening to that episode first.
Content Warning: This episode contains discussions of emotional abuse, narcissistic behavior patterns, infidelity, eating disorders, trauma, and mental health.
And for those looking for some help and guidance, Carlie provided information that helped her understand and recover from her abusive relationship:

Together, Eric and Carlie explore why abusive relationships can be so difficult to leave, how childhood experiences and personal struggles can make someone vulnerable to manipulation, and why recognizing unhealthy patterns is often much harder than it seems.
This is Part One of a two-part series. Be sure to listen to Part Two, where Carlie shares the events that ultimately led her to leave, the challenges of healing after emotional abuse, and how she has begun rebuilding her life with a renewed sense of self and hope.

How much of what we believe comes from facts, and how much comes from identity, emotion, and the groups we feel connected to?
In this episode of Hear 4 You, we sit down with Political Psych with Abby, a YouTube creator who explores the intersection of psychology, history, politics, and human behavior.
Abby shares her journey into political psychology, from studying psychology and history to creating content that helps everyday people understand the forces that shape political beliefs and social movements.
Together, we explore:
• How political psychology differs from traditional political science
• Why humans naturally form group identities — and how that impacts politics
• Why smart and educated people can still fall for misinformation
• The relationship between intelligence, bias, empathy, and critical thinking
• Why political disagreements feel more personal than ever
• The role morality plays in political conversations
• The challenges of discussing controversial topics online
• The responsibility creators have when sharing information
• The importance of activism, community, and working together toward change
This conversation is a deeper look at the psychology behind the headlines — not just what people believe, but why we believe it.
