Pastor Chris Eldridge and I cover difficult questions on how Genesis can be scientifically and logically validated as a legitimate account of our world's origin. We also discuss the two trees in the garden and what they were, as well as the non-discriminative role of women in the Bible. Lastly, we discussed Chiastic Structure which is the Hebrews way of patterning stories and concepts. Here is a visual outline of Genesis 2-3's chiastic structure:
GENESIS 2:4-17 - Man, Ground, Garden, Tree
GENESIS 2:10-25 - God, Man, Woman, Animals, Relationship, Names
GENESIS 3:14-21 - God, Man, Woman, Animals, Relationship, Names
GENESIS 3:22-24 - Man, Ground, Garden, Tree

The quote referenced by Chris of Meritus Professor George Wald states:
"When it comes to the origin of life there are only two possibilities: creation or spontaneous generation. There is no third way. Spontaneous generation was disproved one hundred years ago, but that leads us to only one other conclusion, that of supernatural creation. We cannot accept that on philosophical grounds; therefore, we choose to believe the impossible: that life arose spontaneously by chance!" ("The Origin of Life," Scientific American, 191:48. May 1954).[2]"

The last clarification is on the topic of guilt vs. shame:
It was stated that guilt is a feeling and shame is an identity. Although there is much overlap and shame was not something the humans yet identified with, it is viewed more as an emotion or emotional and social-connection state. Guilt is a state of guiltiness and awareness of a guilty status. This will be something we go into more detail on though in future episodes. As shame becomes a huge topic.
