Chinese New Year is the biggest holiday in Singapore, and a major theme is prosperity. It ranges from giving hong bao (红包), red packets with cash, booking a lion dance troupe or going for the mega jackpot at the national lottery. To mark the Year of the Snake, I'm going to track down a troupe and record a full performance. Will I manage to find one during the 15 days of celebration?

Singapore is a regional travel hub, & one of most popular routes is between Singapore & Hong Kong, two cities joined by a common past as part of the British Empire, now both leading Asian destinations. I brought along my portable recorder and started recording from the moment I passed security at the gate for SQ822 to Hong Kong

Traditionally, December is the wettest month of the year, but 2025's January is proving to be very different with a month's worth of rainfall in a day (Jan 10th) and non-stop rain thereafter. The continuous rain is good for watering plants and filling reservoirs, but the monsoon rains are really good for helping you destress and nod off to dreamland.

This episode is an hour of blissful rain recorded in a quiet residential area, from 3am - 4am, with a calming blend of rain and cicadas. Bookmark this episode to use again whenever you need an assist to get a good night's rest

I'm striking up conversations with people I meet & asking them questions about Singapore.

In this episode, I talk to someone who loves the feeling of coming home, and an international student studying linguistics who loves feeling local because he's learnt when to say "lah" and when to say "leh"
