In this episode, Kristy and Courtney talk about the power of building community—especially within the walls of @ The Barre. As we get older, our social circles tend to shrink, and remote work has only made it harder to connect. No more water cooler talk, hallway catch-ups, or casual small talk… and women are feeling the gap.
They reflect on how personal changes can shift your social energy, the importance of face-to-face interactions (and yes—hugs), and why type A personalities keep showing up at the studio and then fully handing over the reins (Kristy’s favourite). It’s honest, heartfelt, and a reminder that real connection still matters.
Warning: Not a class ad. Phones do ring. We are still very much human.
Courtney and Kristy are back, diving into how social media has changed the way we connect—especially with our teens. From Snapchat “relationships” and fake-perfect Instagram lives to whether GenX is better suited for DMs or phone calls (remember those?), they unpack the weird world of digital communication.
They also touch on the not-so-virtual fallout of the pandemic—how COVID rules and differing opinions created real-life rifts between friends and families. Plus, does TikTok really listen to your conversations and serve you videos accordingly? They're pretty sure it does... and they’ve got stories.
It’s part tech talk, part therapy, and totally Heard @ The Barre.
In this episode, Kristy and Courtney finally reveal the crazy life events that delayed the podcast, including Courtney’s teenage daughter, Niamh, being diagnosed with Lyme disease after a mysterious bite at Turkey Point. (Spoiler: a swollen thumb and knee were the big clues!)
They also dive into parenting teens who are total open books—sharing the hilarious, awkward, and sometimes way-too-honest moments that come with it. Life’s messy, parenting is unpredictable, and somehow it all makes for the best stories at the barre.
In this episode, Courtney and Kristy unpack the rise and fall of their Pilates studio book club (spoiler: it didn’t exactly go as planned). Courtney introduces Kristy to the wildly popular ACOTAR series and other Sarah J. Maas books—sparking a real talk about how sex shouldn’t be a taboo topic, especially in books.
Kristy also shares her theater background (yes, she’s got some stage chops!), and they dive into how jealousy can unfairly shape girls’ reputations growing up. It’s a little bit bookish, a little bit personal, and 100% the kind of conversation you’d overhear at the barre.
Warning: Topics of a sexual nature touched on
Courtney and Kristy are back—after only two hours of trying to set up the podcast equipment (spoiler: they still didn’t do it right). In true GenX fashion, they reminisce about life before the internet, the thrill of getting their first cell phones, and how those analog roots are serving them… not at all.
This episode dives into the weird and wonderful: cults, churches, sticker challenges that may or may not be cult-adjacent, and some creative (read: questionable) ways Canadians tried to beat COVID travel restrictions. Plus, Kristy pitches her genius plan for a free vacation—Netflix, call us! Pilates Island and Love on the Plane are ready for production.
Warning: Canadian COVID protocols mentioned. Mild chaos, nostalgia, and wild ideas ahead.
