In this raw and deeply personal episode of As Above, So Below, Iuliana McClane sits down with Hamish Niven to share, for the first time, her intense lived experience with what she calls a “Black Angel” — a human vessel through which darker forces played out in her life.
Iuliana recounts years of emotional and spiritual warfare with her former husband: gaslighting, manipulation, deliberate destruction of everything she was building, and a profound spiritual attack that left her emotionally paralysed, especially after the death of her beloved dog, Angel. What began as an energy-healing session ended with a clear inner message — “He’s the devil. Why are you helping him?” — and launched her into a multi-year initiation of pain, rage, ancestral fury, and ultimate liberation. She describes the moment she declared she was no longer dealing with the man, but with God, and walked away.
Hamish brings a shamanic lens to the conversation, exploring the concept of Black Angels as powerful (and often unwilling) teachers who force us out of comfort and into radical growth. He shares his own encounters with parasitic entities (including one that called itself “Andy”), the indigenous concept of YTICO — a mind virus that feeds on fear, unconscious patterns, and mediocrity — and how these forces hook into unhealed wounds, ego, and societal conditioning. Together they discuss the dual nature of light and dark within every human, the critical role of awareness and choice, and how these “devils” only hold power when we remain unconscious.
The conversation moves from personal story into broader spiritual territory: the last chance for humanity to clean up its shadows, the difference between healthy discernment and codependent empathy, the feeding patterns of entities that thrive on reaction and emotion, and the profound gift waiting on the other side of the ordeal — peace, humor, sovereignty, and the realization that life is a game we can choose to play consciously.
Iuliana and Hamish close by affirming that we do not need to fear the unseen, only to become aware of it. Once seen, these forces lose their grip. What remains is the raw power of the spirit within us — the same power that allowed Iuliana to walk through hell and emerge untouched.
A potent, unfiltered dialogue on shadow work, spiritual sovereignty, and the Black Angels who push us to become who we truly are.
