  • Frey: the bedroom demo that hit a million streams | Electronic, DnB, Jungle | Heart of Cardiff Ep. 5

Frey is 21 and from Plymouth. At 17 she was posting demos made on a laptop in her bedroom, hoping nobody from school would find the account.

One of those songs has since passed a million streams.

She grew up in a musical house. Her dad was in a rock band, piano lessons started young, and she was writing her own songs all the way through secondary school. At 16 she chose a production course over sixth form and began putting fifteen-second snippets online, with nobody telling her to.

Producers in London noticed. She was 17, didn't know what a session was, and asked her dad to get on the phone with them first. Her first track came out that November.

Her first ever show was the BBC Introducing stage at Boardmasters, at 18, less than a year into performing. She spent it pacing the green room, certain she was going to be sick, then went out and did it. It still arrives five minutes before she walks on.

Game Boy started as a verse and a pre-chorus, about a minute long, written to pad out a set when she didn't have enough songs. She thought it was too weird and too experimental and left it alone for a year. Then she posted it as filler content between releases and it went. The second verse was written on receipt paper behind the bar at the pub she worked in.

She found jungle at 14 through PinkPantheress and Nia Archives. The jazz underneath came from Jamiroquai and Dillinja. The energy came from her dad's records, and she draws the line herself: drum & bass and heavy metal share a tempo and a temperament. "It's fringe, it's rebellious."

What Game Boy taught her was to trust her own ear. She'd been certain it sat too far outside what she was doing at the time. "It's easy to pigeonhole yourself."

She's sat on more music now than she has ever had. Kenny is out. Bristol first, then London.

  • Harvs Le Toad: two years, 100 records, and no idea what's next | Hip Hop, Jazz, Soul | Heart of Cardiff Ep. 4

"All I'm trying to do is make music that helps me… until I'm ready to share it, and then it's not mine anymore."

Harvs Le Toad on Heart of Cardiff - soulful, jazzy hip-hop out of Cambridgeshire, and the two years behind his album, 'Between Lilypads'.

He grew up in a musical family, and started at fifteen on an old 8-track his dad handed him - freestyling over YouTube beats before he learned to build his own. He tried to rap like the grime he was hearing and realised he couldn't do it and stay honest, which is most of how he ended up sounding like himself.

Between Lilypads took two years. It wasn't called that, it wasn't meant to be an album, and it only exists because he, Pitch 92 and Ben Nimmo happened to share a studio in London before Pitch moved back to Manchester. He's also got strong opinions about content, which he'll tell you about.

  • CUNNING MC | Boomtown, 20M views and Drake's nod - now his own EP | Grime, Bassline, UKG, 140

CUNNING MC on Heart of Cardiff.

He's spent years at the front of UK bass - main stages at Boomtown, Boardmasters and Reading & Leeds, touring the world with Sammy Virji, Oppidan, MPH and Hamdi since before covid. 20 million viral views and over 800,000 Spotify streams in six months. A Slazenger freestyle that got nods from Drake and A$AP Rocky. One of the most recognisable MCs in modern UK dance music.

And now it's all under his own name. The That Guy From The Thing EP is out - his first body of work as an artist in his own right, carrying everything those years on the road put into it. In his words, all that work "enabled me to learn my craft and find my sound and identity as my own entity." He sold out his debut show headline show in London and has no plans to stop!

His live set at DIFF Radio is out now on the channel.

  • DAYSH | Alt RnB, Trap, Lo-Fi Rap — car freestyles, owning the room and a clear end goal

    DAYSH on Heart of Cardiff.

She's been an artist since she was 16, starting out posting car freestyles every Friday just to get her first thousand followers. Her sound now sits somewhere between alternative RnB, trap and lo-fi rap, and as she puts it: "My music is either fun or extremely sad, but it's always very introspective."

The turning point was ALONG THE WAY, the eleven-track mixtape that marked the shift out of freestyles and into records — and whose release party sold out, with over 200 people through the door. Her most recent single, INSANE, landed in February.

She's got Red Bull Mic Flex, JBL Academy and Steeze Factory to her name, alongside a run of brand collaborations, and there's new music on the way.

In this one: the first freestyle that happened by accident, being the only woman on a cypher set, going quiet for two years to build something, how much of herself she actually owes an audience, and why she won't release anything unless she's happy with it.

  • BBY GOOSE | Hyperop, Trance & Techno - opens Heart of Cardiff.

    BBY GOOSE

A multi-platform hyperrave queen and certified party

starter, BBY GOOSE fuses trance, hyperpop, techno and

eurodance into something ecstatic, emotional and

impossible to box in. Big synths, euphoric drops, raw

feeling — she doesn't follow the rave, she reroutes it.

Cardiff-based, she played Boiler Room in January 2025

and has spent the past year building across the UK and

Europe, sharing stages with Paul van Dyk, Helena Hauff,

Marlon Hoffstadt, Young Marco and Dr. Rubinstein.

In this one: her dad calling her music noise before he

came to watch her at Boiler Room, why she has no plan B,

what still happens before every set, and why she won't

build a career on a viral moment.
