This is a very special and yet somewhat sad episode of Heart of the Bookkeeper. Rick Freitag from Mount Buller in Victoria and of BizEducation Pty Ltd, was to be our first guest on the Podcast for 2023, however, in the final week of January 2023, Rick very sadly suddenly passed away. Rick Freitag will always be remembered as one of the "giants" of the Bookkeeping Industry here in Australia and in this episode, 4 associates of Rick share the Bookkeeping journey of his life, with us. It is inspiring to hear from our 4 guests of the incredible generosity, wealth of knowledge and massive numbers of Bookkeeping resources that Rick had created over many decades and was so willing to share with others in the Bookkeeping World. Rick was one of only a handful of Life Members of the Institute of Certified Bookkeepers and also in September 2018, at the MYOB Partner Conference held in Melbourne, Rick received his 25 Year Service Award as one of the original MYOB Certified Consultants in Australia. An award winning and passionately Rural Bookkeeper - Sarah Parkinson, is our guest in this episode of Heart of the Bookkeeper. Carmen Morris is an innovative, competitive and passionate Bookkeeper based in Melbourne and is the owner of On the Money Bookkeeping. Finding the positives in the many challenges of Bookkeeping, especially through the recent tougher times, is something that Carmen explains, actually in many cases drives her business and the opportunity to tackle challenges head on is embraced. John Birse is one of the pioneers and legends of Bookkeeping in modern times here in Australia and it is Johns journey that we examine in Episode 18 of Heart of the Bookkeeper, a journey that is very much like a history lesson in how the Bookkeeping profession has grown here in Australia. We kick off 2022 with season 2 / episode 13 of Heart of the Bookkeeper, featuring a fabulous and long standing Bookkeeper, based out of Tasmania, Debra Jeffrey. In this episode we explore Deb's journey to becoming a Bookkeeper and examine many of the challenges she faced along the way in establishing the right mix for her practice. We hear the various ways that Deb has learned to pivot, numerous times in her career as a Bookkeeper and the importance of continuing to be willing to do that on an ongoing basis. Most importantly, we hear in this episode about a very serious incident that occurred in February of 2021, that completely floored Deb's Bookkeeping Practice and spiralled into a situation, that every Bookkeeper and Business owner should listen to and gain learnings from.
