  • Peace: How Gained, How Broken (sermon 2112)
While Spurgeon is probably typecast as a classic three-pointer, his sermons actually show quite a variety in structure. This is a simple two-headed sermon, reflected in the title itself. How can peace be gained? How can peace be broken? Under the first heading, Spurgeon insists that true peace, the only peace worth having, is God's own gift, spoken to his people who are holy. He celebrates the certainty of it and explores something of the beauty of it. Then he comes down from the heights and considers the loss of our peace. Here the preacher shows himself the pastor. The text emphasises that we can lose our peace by turning back to folly, and while that is a proper consideration, Spurgeon takes a few moments to consider some of the other ways in which peace can be lost, not all of them through the sins and failings of true believers. His intention is not to offer us excuses, but not to lay the wrong burden on the wrong heart. The ground cleared, he asks very bluntly about the kinds of sins which lurk in our souls, and which can be the reason why we lose the peace which the Lord speaks. The probing is painful, the speech being plain, and a sensitive heart will find good reason to lament its own folly. Spurgeon concludes with exhortation, giving us a brief barrage of reasons to turn our backs upon folly once and for all, and not to go back to the paths which, because of grace, we have left.

  • Five “ALWAYS” of The Revived (Part 3)
Five "ALWAYS" of The Revived (Part 3) Bridge Builders, Seed Planters, and Servants of the King This message explores five occurrences of the word "always" in 2 Corinthians, revealing the characteristics of a life walking in revival, governed by the grace of God, and devoted to making Jesus known. Beginning with Proverbs 22:17–21, the message emphasizes the importance of inclining our ears to God's wisdom, applying our hearts to His truth, and keeping His Word upon our lips so that our trust in Him continually grows. God teaches us not merely to increase our knowledge, but to establish our confidence in His promises and equip us to give His truth away to others. The five always reveal that God always leads us in triumph in Christ (2 Corinthians 2:14); we are always carrying the dying of Jesus so His life may be manifested through us (4:10–11); we are always confident in His promises (5:6); we are always rejoicing, even in sorrow (6:10); and His grace supplies our sufficiency for every good work (9:8). These truths demonstrate that genuine revival isn't determined by favorable circumstances, human approval, or material abundance, but by a continual dependence upon Jesus and faithful obedience to His Word. Through illustrations of bridges, apple seeds, Gideon's clay vessels, and Paul and Silas rejoicing in prison, the message reminds believers that they are bridge builders, seed planters, and servants of the King. God uses ordinary, fragile people to carry His extraordinary message, planting gospel truth that produces fruit in His appointed seasons. And regardless of hardship, opposition, or misunderstanding, His people are called to serve with purity, kindness, sincere

  • The Sin of Grieving the Holy Spirit
Day of Humiliation Service (Fast Day) VaultAI Summary: This sermon opens a communion season by examining the sin of grieving the Holy Spirit, emphasizing that true believers are called to self-examination and sincere repentance before partaking in the Lord's Supper. The speaker affirms the full deity and personhood of the Holy Spirit, who indwells believers as a seal of ownership and a source of comfort, salvation, and sanctification. Grieving the Spirit is identified through a lack of daily dependence, persistent disobedience to God's commands, and the quenching of spiritual fervor, which results in the temporary withdrawal of His power and presence as a loving chastisement. The message calls for evangelical repentance, urging believers to seek forgiveness through Christ and to actively please the Spirit by meditating on Jesus and cultivating His fruit. Ultimately, the sermon invites the congregation to make their hearts a welcoming home for the Holy Spirit, leading to deeper union with Christ and the experience of divine love.

  • Repairing the Back Porch
Dr. Bill Jones heads to Lowe's in Brooklyn for supplies as New York Gospel Ministries continues nearly fifteen years of repairing its historic building. Cracks in the back porch and a drain that no longer functions have let water leak into the basement, damaging a ceiling that has been patched before. Working alongside a contractor, he is removing the loose and damaged porch surface, laying down a new one, and sealing it with a newly introduced waterproof paint-on product. He reflects that maintaining a building the Lord has kept since 1873 consumes time but is an investment in the next generation. He expresses gratitude for mission teams and skilled professionals who use their gifts in carpentry, sheetrock repair, painting, and concrete work to help preserve the ministry's facility.
