When something like this happens in the church body, it can lead to burnout. It’s easy in a church body to rely on the same volunteers who you know will show up on time every week and get the job done. But if we aren’t encouraging the rest of the congregation to pitch in, we’ll be in danger of losing the members we’ve relied on.

God doesn’t ask us to hide our tears. Jesus Himself wept at the tomb of His friend Lazarus. But He also spoke resurrection into that same tomb. That’s the hope we cling to—not that we’ll never hurt, but that we never hurt alone.

Healing doesn’t mean forgetting. It means allowing God to fill the empty spaces with His peace. In time, your grief can become a testimony and with that comes empathy to bring hope to others.

Pain has a way of weakening our faith no matter how far or close we are to Christ. Have you ever been upset with God? I think anyone who has experienced a tragedy has been at some point.

God sees our pain. But He also knows the purpose behind every trial. And just as he raised Lazarus, he wants to bring life into our darker circumstances. Trust that God is at work even when you can’t see it. His plan for you is greater than you can imagine.

In this life, our view of God’s purpose, His plan, and even ourselves can be foggy—blurred by pain, sin, or confusion. We are living in a loneliness epidemic, and it appears to be worse for men. As guys, I get it, it can be really hard to cultivate meaningful relationships once you’re beyond college. But I want to urge you to make this a priority. We were made for community. So, reach out to someone. Chances are, they really need someone to talk to also.

We can’t receive the microwaved version of our walk with God. This relationship takes time to develop. It takes time to learn the voice of the Holy Spirit. And it takes God time to continue to mold us to look more and more like Christ.
