"A Shadow of Good things to Come"

The final parable spoken by Jesus Christ is the parable of the talents, the twelfth Kingdom of Heaven parable. This concluding parable has been the source of much confusion and misapplication but it is easily understood in the context of the greater passage spoken just before Jesus is arrested. In the Olivet Discourse Jesus answers the questions his disciples ask but he also adds there will be judgment at the second coming of Christ for the manner in which Israel conducted itself with the tools given as part of God’s plan for Israel to be the conduit of blessing to the world.

The parable of the ten virgins reveals more about the intention and expectation Jesus placed on the nation of Israel in the last days. While sometimes doctrinally misapplied the passage clearly speaks of preparation, expectation, and presence as being criteria for Israel to enter into the Kingdom of Heaven.

After departing the temple Jesus and his disciples made their way to Mt Olivet where Jesus began to answer the questions the disciples had regarding the destruction of the temple and his return to claim his throne. His answer has been the subject of much study and confusion however the message is clear, there will be destruction and Christ will return.
