Did Yeshua teach that you should follow the Pharisees, which means follow rabbinic Judaism? (See Matthew 23: 1-3).

In the Shemtov Hebrew book of Matthew, the rendering of Matthew 23:3 is as follows: Yeshua is saying, “You are to do what Moses said, NOT according to Pharisaic interpretations, or the Oral law (Talmud) on how to follow the Torah.”

In the first century there was a Sanhedrin, and they made determination and announcement of the New Moon and to sanctify it. Originally, when the court would sanctify the New Moon, they would send messengers to light bonfires on the mountain tops to notify the people in distant places.

The sun and the moon are given for signs and seasons. (Gen. 1: 14, 16)

The moon was given to help us to determine when to celebrate and keep the Feasts. The New Moon determines the date of the annual Feasts.

How did we get the exile calendar? Should we follow the exile calendar (the Hillel calendar)? We will look into this.

In the Messianic Era, the “exile calendar” will no longer be used. Yeshua will establish a biblical judicial court which will declare the new moon according to Torah and the days of old.

This is a teaching series on the New Moon, which in Hebrew, is “Rosh Chodesh”. There are two major spiritual themes associated with the New moon. Celebrating the New Moon teaches us about rebirth and restoration. Why do we celebrate the New Moon and what is the understanding behind it? Rosh Chodesh, or, the celebration of the New Moon, was the first commandment given to Israel when they were redeemed out of Egypt.

And the LORD spake unto Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt, saying, This month shall be unto you the beginning of months: it shall be the first month of the year to you. Exodus 12:1-2

The biblical calendar is a lunar based calendar. How can we understand that? We will delve into this. The biblical months are lunar, but the biblical year is solar.

In this session, we will also look at the history and the role of the Sanhedrin in judging matters.

Sukkot is known as the “Festival of Light”. We can see Yeshua in this feast as he says this:

“Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that follows me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.” John 8:12

Sukkot is associated with the Gog/Magog war. In the Jewish siddur/prayer book for Sukkot, the traditional reading during Sukkot is

Ezekiel 38: 18—Ez 39:16.

What is associated with the defeat of Gog/Magog?

*At the conclusion of the battle of Gog/Magog we see the end of the exile of Jacob.

*Yahweh’s name is sanctified and glorified in the sight of many nations

*It is the end of the exile for the house of Jacob

*Yahweh regathers his people

*The outpouring of His spirit happens

*Yahweh’s face is no longer hidden from them.

When I have brought them again from the people, and gathered them out of their enemies' lands, and am sanctified in them in the sight of many nations; hen shall they know that I am the LORD their God, which caused them to be led into captivity among the heathen: but I have gathered them unto their own land, and have left none of them any more there. either will I hide my face any more from them: for I have poured out my spirit upon the house of Israel, saith the Lord GOD. Ezekiel 39:27-29

At Sukkot, there were a total of 70 bullocks sacrificed (Numbers 29:12-20). This was to represent the 70 nations of the world.

On the first day, 13 bullocks

On the second day, 12 bullocks

On the third day, 11 bullocks

On the fourth day, 10 bullocks

On the fifth day, 9 bullocks

On the sixth day, 8 bullocks

On the seventh day, 7 bullocks

It all adds up to 70, which represents the 70 nations of the world. Why 70? There were 70 souls that went down to Egypt in Jacob’s family (Exodus 1:5). There were 70 nations that formed after the flood of Noah (Genesis 10:32).

During the millennial reign of Yeshua, all nations will be required to send a representative to Jerusalem to keep Sukkot.

And it shall come to pass, that every one that is left of all the nations which came against Jerusalem shall even go up from year to year to worship the King, the LORD of hosts, and to keep the feast of tabernacles. And it shall be, that whoso will not come up of all the families of the earth unto Jerusalem to worship the King, the LORD of hosts, even upon them shall be no rain.

And ye shall take you on the first day the boughs of goodly trees, branches of palm trees, and the boughs of thick trees, and willows of the brook; and ye shall rejoice before the LORD your God seven days. Leviticus 23:39-40

Sukkot is associated with the cloud of glory:

And the LORD went before them by day in a pillar of a cloud, to lead them the way; and by night in a pillar of fire, to give them light; to go by day and night. Exodus 13:21

And the LORD will create upon every dwelling place of mount Zion, and upon her assemblies, a cloud and smoke by day, and the shining of a flaming fire by night: for upon all the glory shall be a defence. And there shall be a tabernacle for a shadow in the daytime from the heat, and for a place of refuge, and for a covert from storm and from rain. Isaiah 4:5-6

Sukkot is about the completing of a task, the finishing of a journey. What is the task? To gather the exiles that have been scattered. The task is the restoring of the tabernacle of David. What will that look like? The regathering of the exiles of Israel and the reuniting of Northern and Southern kingdom to make ONE NEW MAN, one united kingdom of the WHOLE house of Israel, comprised of all 12 tribes.

In that day will I raise up the tabernacle of David that is fallen, and close up the breaches thereof; and I will raise up his ruins, and I will build it as in the days of old. Amos 9:11

What is the “fallen tabernacle of David” referring to? The Tabernacle/tent of David is a Hebrew idiomatic express for the kingdom of David. This was the last time that the nation/kingdom of Israel was united, under the rulership of King David. Then we had the kingdom split, and rebellion was led by Jeroboam:

So when all Israel saw that the king hearkened not unto them, the people answered the king, saying, What portion have we in David? neither have we inheritance in the son of Jesse: to your tents, O Israel: now see to thine own house, David. So Israel departed unto their tents. 1 Kings 12:16

THIS is when the Tent of David fell: when Jeroboam took the 10 tribes of the north, rebelled, and they set up ALTERNATE days of worship, ALTERNATE feast/holiday schedule, ALTERNATE places for worship, and the golden calf system of worship was reinstituted. And they “hearkened NOT to the voice of the Lord nor did they keep His statutes and follow his commands.” (They didn’t follow the Torah).THIS is the sin of Jeroboam.

Does this sound familiar? The sin of Jeroboam is very present in our midst today. How so?

Instead of Shabbat worship we have an alternate day of worship: SUNday worship

Instead of the biblical feasts we have alternate holidays: Christmas and Easter

Instead of following/keeping the Torah, people follow the Holy Spirit, follow New Testament only; we are under grace, and the “law” (Torah) has been nailed to the cross. (We need Word AND Spirit!)

We need to repent of the sin of Jeroboam, which is spiritual adultery, which is worshiping a God of our own vain imaginations and then calling Him “God”.

We need to return to following and keeping the Torah by the Holy Spirit. THIS is what “raising up the fallen tent of David” is! The kingdom split/breach between Northern and Southern kingdom is in process NOW of being healed! We will, one day, become ONE nation, ONE people, ONE new man, following ONE Torah, following Yeshua our King!

Sukkot is associated with the Messianic era after Yeshua has returned and is ruling and reigning for a thousand years. All nations of the world will be required to keep the Feast of Tabernacles during the Messianic era. (Zechariah 14: 16-19)

Here is the spiritual journey in a nutshell: This journey is represented by Passover, putting the blood of the lamb upon the doorposts, then Pentecost/Shavuot, which is associated with the giving of the Torah at Mt Sinai, and then going into the Promised land, Zion, which is associated with the Feast of Tabernacles/Sukkot, thus finishing the journey.

In keeping Passover, we put the blood of the lamb on the doorposts of our heart. This is salvation. Then, in coming to Mt Sinai, Yeshua said, “If you love me, keep my commandments.” If we do this, then we enter into a marriage covenant with Him and we will get to DWELL WITH/SUKKOT WITH Yeshua at Mt Zion/Jerusalem when he returns to rule/reign during the Messianic era.

*Sukkot is associated with the cloud of glory being present.

*The tabernacle is the place of dwelling of where the glory of the Lord resides and rests.

*The glory of the Lord is a consuming fire.

We have been on a spiritual journey. It began with Passover, with our leaving the world, the world system, and coming out of the bondage of slavery to sin. We began a journey of following Yeshua and His Torah. Passover is a picture of salvation. We are saved by faith through grace (Eph 2:8-9). In His mercy and lovingkindness, Yeshua took all the penalty of sin upon Himself in dying on the tree.

Similarly, Yeshua, in his mercy, remembered the covenant He made with Abraham, and raised up Moses to bring the children of Israel OUT of Egypt, OUT of their bondage and slavery. When they put the blood of the lamb on their doorposts, they were demonstrating FAITH and TRUST that the God of Israel would deliver them. This is a picture of salvation, thus BEGINNING the spiritual journey.

Next, we come to Mt Sinai, at the time of Shavuot. It was there that Yeshua makes a wedding proposal to them (and us). Here, He tells us that IF we will hear His voice, and KEEP His commands, THEN I will make you to be a peculiar treasure, a set apart people. (Exodus 19:5). The ten commandments, and all of Torah, is the “ketubah”, the marriage covenant agreement.

The house of Jacob, (Yeshua’s covenant family), said “I do” or “yes” to the marriage proposal. (Ex. 19:8). Sadly, it did not take long for them to break the covenant as they fell into spiritual adultery/harlotry with the golden calf incident. Later, the golden calf incident happens AGAIN when Jeroboam leads a rebellion, spearheads a kingdom split, and leads the Northern kingdom into golden calf system of worship AGAIN (1 Kings 12:27-29).

We continued the spiritual journey through the Fall Feasts of Yom Teruah, the Days of Awe, a time of the “Awakening blast”, a time and a call to examine ourselves and to repent, for both personal and national repentance, a time for the bride to prepare herself for the bridegroom. Then we can to Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement. The gate of heaven is now closed, court is in session, and judgment is rendered from heaven. If we stand under the blood of Yeshua, with a new heart, a heart of flesh, where the Torah is being written upon it, and we are seeking to follow it by the power of the Holy Spirit, then our name is found in the book of life.

And now we arrive at Sukkot in our journey. Sukkot is related and connected to completing the task, and finishing the journey, where, ultimately, Yeshua will “tabernacle with” His people.

And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. Revelation 21:3

In this session, we will look at the Neilah Service, the last part of a Yom Kippur service and the deeper spiritual meaning of the "sounding of the Great Shofar".

The rabbis teach that Yom Kippur is the climax of the ten days of awe. They teach that the gates of heaven are open during the ten days to receive the prayers of repentance. Then, during the “neilah” service, the gates of heaven are closed.

We will now study this neilah service to learn the deeper spiritual meaning and application.The heavenly judgment that was given during Yom Teruah is now sealed during the Neilah service of Yom Kippur.

Yom Kippur is associated with the sounding of the “Great Shofar”.

As part of the Neilah service there is the sounding of the shofar. This is known at the “Great Shofar”. The rabbis teach that the hearing of the shofar inspires within us a yearning for the shofar that will herald our ultimate freedom. The great shofar announces the coming of the Messiah.

The sounding of the great shofar is associated with the gathering the exiles of Israel AND is connected with Yom Kippur:

And it shall come to pass in that day, that the great trumpet shall be blown, and they shall come which were ready to perish in the land of Assyria, and the outcasts in the land of Egypt, and shall worship the LORD in the holy mount at Jerusalem. Isaiah 27:13

When Yeshua returns, He will set his feet down on the Mount of Olives on Yom Kippur in the biblical year of Jubilee.

The blood of Yeshua takes away our sins. The blood of the Messiah reconciles us to the Father. The blood of Messiah gives us eternal redemption. The blood is what brings remission of sin. Sin is purged with the shedding of blood.

For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins. Matthew 26:28

In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace. Ephesians 1:7

When we acknowledge our sin, and confess our sin, He is faithful and just to forgive us of our sin and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Yeshua, our Great High Priest, in the order of Melchezedik became the sin sacrifice on the tree so that we could be redeemed and be able to draw near to the Father.

Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool. Isaiah 1:18

What can wash away my sins?

Nothing but the blood of Yeshua.

What can make me whole again?

Nothing but the blood of Yeshua.

O precious is the flow

That washes white as snow.

No other fount I know

Nothing but the blood of Yeshua.
