At the deeper sod level, the two sons in the parable of the prodigal son represent the northern and the southern kingdom, Ephraim and Judah. Ephraim, the northern kingdom, has gone off into the world and squandered his inheritance.

And not many days after the younger son gathered all together, and took his journey into a far country, and there wasted his substance with riotous living.

Riotous living is a reference to harlotry.

One of the primary missions of Yeshua in His first and His second coming is to gather and unite the 12 tribes of Israel. He is coming again to gather the scattered flock of two sheepfolds: Judah and Ephraim. Yeshua goes from the letter of the Torah to the spirit of the Torah when He states this principle in the Sermon on the Mount, showing that the Father is looking not just at outward behavior but He is also looking at the thoughts and intentions of the heart:

You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not murder, and whoever murders will be in danger of the judgment.’ But I say to you that whoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment. And whoever says to his brother, ‘Raca!’ shall be in danger of the council. But whoever says, ‘You fool!’ shall be in danger of hell fire.

Matthew 5: 21-22

In the Sermon on the Mount, Yeshua is teaching us to do MORE than follow the letter of the law/Torah but to follow the SPIRIT of the law/Torah.

Lets summarize:

*Israel, Torah and the Messiah are ONE

*What happens to Israel happens to the Messiah. What happens to the Messiah happens to Israel. As an example of this, Israel was taken to Egypt, brought out of Egypt, got immersed in the Red Sea, was tested in the wilderness, and got taught Torah from a mountain. Similarly, in Matthew 1-5, we see how Yeshua has a miraculous birth, was taken to Egypt, was brought out of Egypt, was also tested in the wilderness, and taught Torah from a mountain.

*Ephraim, in Genesis 48, is referred to as a “multitude of nations”.

*When Yeshua was speaking to the multitudes from a mountain in Matthew 5, at the sod level, on a deeper level, he was speaking to Ephraim, to the northern kingdom.

*Yeshua was teaching them how to believe in Him by faith and how to follow His Torah and be a Torah bondservant.

“Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hid. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” Matthew 5: 14,16

Walk with Eddie as he continues to unpacks the deeper meaning of the Sermon on the Mount. Did you know, on a deeper level, that Yeshua was actually teaching the Torah to Ephraim, to the Northern Kingdom in the Sermon on the Mount? The Torah is Light (Psalm 119:105, Prov 4:18, Prov 6:23). Yeshua is light (John 12:35-36). Therefore, to follow Yeshua is to follow Torah and to walk in the light.

Yeshua is teaching to the multitudes at the Sermon on the Mount. The multitudes represent the northern kingdom scattered to the nations of the world.

For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.

What is the deeper meaning? What is Yeshua really saying?

The Pharisees followed the Oral Law/Torah. When Ephraim returns to the Torah, they must do it in such a way that it EXCEEDS how the Pharisees follow the Torah. This means they need to follow the written Torah of Yeshua, in the power of the Holy Spirit (Ruach Hakodesh). Yeshua is the Lawgiver and gave us the Torah at Mt Sinai.
