Nebuchadnezzar carried the inhabitants of Jerusalem and Judah captive to Babylon in 586 bc. The language of everyday life in Assyria and Babylon was Aramaic, not Hebrew. While the Jews were in exile, the Hebrew language became nearly extinct, and the main language spoken was Aramaic. The Targums are an explanation of the Hebrew Scriptures in Aramaic for the benefit of those Jews who had partially or completely ceased to understand Hebrew. The Targums are the Aramaic interpretation of the Hebrew scriptures.

They will rebel against accepting the establishment of a Palestinian state based upon 1967 borders and with East Jerusalem as its capital. They will declare an independent state in the West bank (biblical Judea/Samaria). The bible calls this independent state biblical Zion. (Isaiah 66:7-9). What is associated with the birth of biblical Zion is that there will be a conflict between the sons of Zion v/s the sons of Greece. The sons of Greece will be seeking to establish a New One World Order, economy, and currency.

The birth of Isaac, the child of promise, is a prophetic picture of the birth of biblical Zion.

In Psalm 126:2, it is written:

Then was our mouth filled with laughter, and our tongue with singing: then said they among the heathen, The LORD hath done great things for them.

For Sarah conceived, and bare Abraham a son in his old age, at the set time of which God had spoken to him. And Sarah said, God hath made me to laugh, so that all that hear will laugh with me. Gen 21:2,6

We see in the verse above, that Isaac was born at the “set time”. In Hebrew this is the word “moedim” or festival. Isaac was born at Passover. This is a prophecy for when biblical Zion will be born: at some future Passover.

In this teaching session, we will look at some of the modern history of the nation of Israel. The current nation of Israel represents “secular Zion.” Understanding Israel’s history goes back to the first century. The Jews were looking for someone who would free them from Roman tyranny. In The Roman general Titus, led Roman troops against Jerusalem, and in 70 AD, temple was destroyed. After this battle, the Romans forbid Jews to live in Jerusalem on pain of death. Hence, the Jews were exiled to the nations of the world.

What is Jewish Secular Zionism? It is an ideology embraced by both Jews and non-Jews expressed as a love and yearning for the homeland of Israel. The foundation of Jewish Zionism is rooted in the belief that the land of Israel is the historical birthplace of the Jewish people and that Jewish life anywhere else in the world is a life of exile.

The father of the modern Zionist movement is Theodore Herzl. In 1894, Herzl was a witness to the anti-semitism in France during the trial of Captain Alfred Dreyfuss. Herzl himself stated that the Dreyfus case turned him into a Zionist and that he was particularly affected by chants of "Death to the Jews!" from the crowds.

He became consumed with the vision and desire for all Jews to have a national homeland for the Jews to be free them from social injustice and anti-semitism. For Herzl, this meant a sovereign Jewish state. Herzl wrote a book, “Der Judenstaat”: The Jewish State. Herzl’s book was most responsible for galvanizing support from world Jewry for the establishment of a Jewish state.

In 1897, Theodore Herzl called the First Zionist Congress in Basel Switzerland. Here he officially launched the Zionist movement with a statement of purpose: that the object of Zionism is to establish for the Jewish people a publicly and legally assured home in Palestine. And the LORD showed signs and wonders, great and sore, upon Egypt, upon Pharaoh, and upon all his household, before our eyes: And he brought us out from thence, that He might bring us in, to give us the land which he swore unto our fathers. Deut. 6:22-23

Why did the God of Israel take us out of Egypt? It was to take us to the Promised land, to take us to Israel, to take us up to Jerusalem.

After the giving of the Torah at Mt Sinai, the children of Israel fell into the sin of golden calf worship. Years later, Moses sends out the 12 spies to check out the promised land.Ten of the spies came back with a negative report. They measured the situation in and with their natural eyes, thinking and saying: “the giants are bigger than us, we cannot defeat them.” Because of their sin and disobedience, an entire generation died in the wilderness. Yeshua wanted to bring them IN to the Promised land, to Zion, to shalom, but for Him to be able to do that, He is going to have to change their hearts and renew the covenant relationship.

So when Yeshua died on the tree, and shed his blood, He did so offering forgiveness of sins for those who would repent of their sins, and ask Yeshua into their heart and their life, making Him their Lord and Savior. In doing so, He would give them His indwelling Holy Spirit. The indwelling Holy Spirit would give us a heart where we could connect with the heart of the Father. This is the means by which Yeshua is going to bring us into the Promised Land. At Mt Zion is where Yeshua wants to dwell with his people. He wants to be married to his people. But, in this journey to Zion, FIRST He must give us a NEW HEART:

Behold, the days come, says the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah: Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the LORD: But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my Torah in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people. Jer. 31:31-33

In renewing this covenant, Yeshua is going to remove the stony heart and replace it with a heart of flesh.
