London in the Victorian era was far from the glamorous, picturesque capital city that we know today. It was a cluster of new developments aimed at the wealthy, and overcrowded hovels in which the lower classes were subject to the grimmest conditions without proper hygiene and with poor sanitation. This grisly backdrop provided the perfect cover for many of the city’s most brutal killers, whose crimes went unpunished and whose victims have largely been forgotten about due to the passage of time.
