In 2016, in the small, tight-knit town of Brownwood, Texas, everyone knew Chantay Blankinship. She was a developmentally challenged young woman who loved to walk the streets of the town, listening to music and waving and smiling to everyone. But one night, she disappeared. She was found raped and murdered in a location that pointed to a local offender. Investigators were at a loss until a Parabon Snapshot image of the killer was revealed. And that image generated not only tips, but ultimately, a confession.

In 1992, beloved young teacher Christy Mirack was brutally slain in her own home. Although police investigated thoroughly, and there were some intriguing clues that Christy was targeted, there were no viable suspects, and the case went cold. Then, with the help of Parabon, police discovered the identity of Christy's killer. And his identity was a surprise to everyone. This is one of the first cases in the country to secure a conviction of a killer from decades ago on the basis of DNA traced back to him through forensic genealogy. And it's not over yet. I'll share new information about the killer and the status of his conviction.

Episode 195 DOE ID Pati Lisa Rust and Patricia Falls Ritchie

Today's DOE: ID episode covers two unrelated cases out of Palm Beach County, Florida. The discovery of the remains of two different Jane Does, one in the 1970s and one in the 1980s, led investigators nowhere. With contemporary identification tools and resources limited, there was not much that could be done – even though both women are believed to be homicide victims. Thanks to IGG, we now know the names of Pati Lisa Rust and Patricia Falls Ritchie, whose cases are unrelated but are a stark reminder of just how many female murder victims have yet to receive justice.

Episode 194 Christine Prince, Claire Samson, and Gracelyn Greenidge

The shocking murders of three women in Toronto, Canada spanned the years 1982 to 1997. The cases were so dissimilar, no one would ever have connected them. But science did – DNA from all three cases linked them to the same offender. Toronto Police Services cold case investigators could not make sense of the connection, as there was no discernable pattern or commonality. It took IGG to provide the answer they were seeking – the name of the man who took the lives of three women, a predator who left behind more questions than answers.

Episode 193 Doe ID The D' Alton Brothers

The Babes in the Woods case was one of Canada's oldest and most mysterious cold cases, that of two children murdered in a public park sometime in the 1940s. There were several potential witnesses, but none knew the names of the boys' killer. Tenacious investigators would not let the boys be forgotten, and held onto some of their remains until science caught up. This is the story of David and Derek D'Alton.

Episode 192 Alma Lake and Michelle Dawson-Pass

Alma and Michelle were both from Columbus, Ohio. Both were young Black women. Both had children. Both led troubled lives involving sex work and drugs. And both were slain in the 1990s and dumped outdoors in remarkably similar circumstances. But no one really connected their cases, five years apart and in different counties, until DNA in each case connected to the same unknown killer. When modern investigators flushed him out using IGG, they were not surprised to learn he had other victims.

Episode 190 Bert Allen Mann

Bert Allen Mann, who went by Allen, was found brutally bludgeoned and stabbed to death in his Austin, TX home in 1994. There were a limited number of viable suspects, ranging from known burglars to jealous love triangle participants. Despite ample suspect blood found at the scene, the case went cold. Austin PD's cold case unit finally turned to IGG to learn the name of the person who had killed Allen in a bloodbath in his foyer, and they were surprised to learn he was not in the case file. And, he slipped through their fingers before they could ensure justice for Allen.
