It was identified as a Teen Soap Opera... a "short" Teen Soap Opera between two lovesick southern teenagers who carry on their conversations all over the phone... hence on the line... yes, phone signals used to travel through a wire... some still do! On this track there are two 3 min episodes edited together as Paul brags about how he whipped Butch at the Football Banquet the night before and how his Uncle Joe got drunk again. Peggy tells Paul that her Aunt Prissy is transferring her to a school that she went to in Chattanooga, and Paul is very upset. Also Uncle Joe has been kicked out of the house because of his drinking. A juvenile western that was also popular with parents! The Cisco Kid produced over 600 episodes in 10 years and that does not count the television series with different actors. Very different from O'Henry's character in a novel written in 1907... THAT "Cisco" was a real villain... not a Robin Hood type of character as portrayed in radio, films, and television. Fanny Brice as Baby Snooks is back with another short skit from the Maxwell House Coffee Hour program in 1942. This time Daddy is taking Snooks out to lunch, but he is having a tough time getting her to eat her lettuce and explaining to her why she has to eat the green lettuce but she can't have green beer like Daddy is having... and then there is the Hiccups! This track consists of an introduction to the dramatic anthology series broadcast on MGM Theater of the Air in 1949-1952. The series specialized in radio adaptations of famous films of the time. Starring Dave O'Brien as Captain Midnight... The series aired 5 days a week. Began in 1938 and ended in December of 1949. This was followed by a television series starring Richard Webb that began in Sept. of 1954 on CBS and continued with 39 episodes until January 1956. There were also comic books, comic strips, and several "serial type" motion pictures made during the 1940's and early 50's. This was a "super hero" prequel show. The topics of the stories changed dramatically when World War II broke out. The show was a favorite of the members of the Army Air Corps during the war and was broadcast over the Armed Forces Radio Service. The 1943 radio adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson's novella "The Adventures of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde" continues with Episodes 31 and 32 edited back-to-back. Starring Australian actor, and man of a 1000 voices, is George Edwards. He played multiple roles in this excellent adaptation of the classic story of good vs. evil. Each week for a little over 6 years beginning in June of 1947, ABC radio presented a unique series entitled "The President." Each episode featured a story of a different President of the United States (up until 1953) and a well-researched and documented event in his life that was re-enacted by MGM film star Edward Arnold and an excellent supporting cast. The key was that the President was not identified until the last line of the dialog. This gave the audience a chance to test their knowledge of American history and of major events that had taken place involving the Presidents starting with George Washington and ending with Dwight D. Eisenhower. This series will have its own playlist "The President" this is the first program in that playlist.

CBS Radio produced this series 21 months from 1956-57. It was attempting to hold on to, and perhaps recapture, some of the audience they had lost to television after WW II. The series was classified as "An Experimental Dramatic Radio Anthology"... in many ways, not unlike television's Twilight Zone. This program investigates ESP, Telepathy, Clairvoyance, Dowsing, and Precognition. John McIntyre is the host and Raymond Burr is one of the actors in the dramatized scenes. She was one of the most talented female performers on radio and a true example of the advantages of the use of sound because at the age of 50 in this 1941 skit from the Maxwell House Coffee Show, Fanny Brice made audiences believe she was a 10 year old little girl. Her father, played by Hanley Stafford, was the perfect straight man and foil for Snooks' consistent "Why?" question that she had for just about everything her father told her. In this roughly 9 minute skit, Snooks and Daddy (Lancelot Higgins was 'Daddy's name') are taking a trolley car to the shoe store to buy Snooks a new pair of shoes... but she wants roller skates and wonders why the "shoe tree" in the store doesn't have acorns?
