This is a track of an upbeat musical variety show featuring guest, Connee Boswell (photo). Many critics have widely considered Connee Boswell as one of the greatest jazz female vocalists and she was a major influence on Ella Fitzgerald who said that she listened to her records when she was young. There were three Boswell sisters, but two retired in 1936 and Connee continued on as a solo artist. She was born in 1907 and died at the age of 68 in 1976. She made her first recordings in 1925. Connee sang from a wheelchair or was seated... having either suffered her paralysis from childhood polio or a fall from a wagon. Generally the public did not know of her condition, but she did not keep this secret.. She wanted to perform overseas for the USO during WW II but the Army thought that having a performer in a wheelchair might not be a morale-booster for the troops, so she was denied to travel. She did a lot of philanthropic work for people living with disabilities and she sure could sing as you will hear on this track.

Lux Radio Theatre had a 20 year run on radio and several more on television. It was started by NBC and paid an average of $5000 a show for the stars of the program... not bad now, but unbelievably good in 1938!
