Orson Welles played the shadow for only one year.... 1937-38... Bill Johnstone and Bret Morrison played the bulk of the role of Lamont Cranston. The official "The Shadow Radio Show" ran from 1937 to 1954. Margo Lane was played for the most part by Agnes Moorehead. The intro to the show, the infamous laugh, was not done by Orson Welles, but by a man named Frank Readick who read the lines with a water glass next to his mouth to create the echo effect.
