Command Performance for the Armed Forces Radio Service from July 28, 1942. Features Cary Grant and Emcee with a variety of guests that are introduced in the audio introduction. Command Performance was not broadcast on national networks... only via shortwave radio to troops during WW II. Guest lists were requested by troops through cards and letters and Command Performance delivered! These productions were totally donated from equipment and building to every technician and appearing performer. George Edwards, the man of 1000 voices produced and directed this series at the end of the 1930's and then the recordings were made on 16" Transcription disks and sent to radio stations all over the world. The effort proved to be very successful as audiences found this series very entertaining. I might add that all the productions I have heard from Australia have been top notch in every way. Then there were serial films in 1942, a television show from 1954-56 (starring Richard Webb) ... syndicated newspaper strip from 1942 to late 40's, and a comic book series from 1942-48. Ans to Trivia: Based on a World War I U.S. Army pilot. His Captain Midnight code name was given by a general who sent him on high-risk missions from which he returned at the stroke of 12 midnight.
