People have asked me how I got interested in old time radio... this is kind of a two-subject story... We lived on a farm that was not in very good shape. On the tractor is my father in 1960... in back of him is where the Outhouse was located in the barn. I mention it because there is a reference to it in the story... it is part of the reason I got interested in radios and radio programs. Hope you enjoy the story. It is true as I remember it. Shirley Bell plays "Little Orphan Annie" with her friend Joe... and they are off in an old car driven by the local marshal. The car speeds them to their destination at 18mph. When they arrive at the farm, Mrs. Wigglesworth is there to greet them. They are looking for Bill Corwin... he has disappeared. There are about 10 episodes missing... so we don't know hat happened to the empty house with the light on, but we learn that Bill Corwin is missing. He was robbed of payroll envelopes, and told to leave town by a masked man. In this episode Annie goes to the Wigglesworth farm with the marshal to learn more about the disappearance. Annie has her own playlist... this is the 6th episode...

Audio introduction presents background of "Lights Out" aka "The Devil and Mr. O" and the track that is a 1970 version of a show originally broadcast in 1942 as "Across the Gap" but that recording was lost and a new version was produced in 1970. From 1934...Episodes 4 and 5 are edited back-to-back in this story of the adventures of "The Green Valley Line"... a story of a back-country railroad in the early 1900's . Bill Reed is the hero who is developing the growing company, using a telegraph and telephone to keep track of train orders and runs. He's managing railroad hands, the trains, freight shipments and unfortunately a gang of operatives who are intent on destroying the development of the line. Episodes 47 and 48 are edited back to back on this track with 2 minute break between them as a Chinese song plays... Episode 47 "Attracting The King's Affection" and Episode 48 "Securing Benedetta Corsini's Release" First introduced in Australia starring the man of 1000 voices, George Edwards... in the late 1930's and by the 1940's the series was delivered on 16 inch transition records worldwide.

Epi 5: "Light in the Mysterious Deserted House" ... this follows the previous episode when Tony is arrested for robbery....and of course it is all about "Ovaltine"... when I post one of these shows I cannot stop thinking about the 1983 film "Christmas Story" based on Jean Shepherd's story in his 1966 book, "In God We Trust". Remember Ralphie Parker who wanted a Red Ryder Range 200 Shot BB gun for Christmas. Of course every day he got home from school he would tune in "Little Orphan Annie" on the console radio and when he got his decoder ring in the mail he thought he could win a prize that would help him get the toy gun he wanted... but when he decoded his first message... It was about buying Ovaltine! That experience changed Ralphies view toward Little Orphan Annie's Radio Program and commercial advertising! Great film and Little Orphan Annie was a great series, despite the ads of Ovaltine.

One of the most popular sitcoms on radio starred Lucille Ball and Richard Denning. When the show went to television on CBS, Lucy demanded that her real husband, Desi Arnaz... and that show for 6 years... 1951-57, producing 180 half-hour episodes... and is still repeating today on some of the cable networks that feature popular sitcoms from TV. Produced about 1934, this 26 episode "Railroad" Soap Opera... is a serial. That means each episode is connected to the one before it and to the one coming after it. They are not separate stories. As they only ran about 12 minutes per episode, I have edited two episodes back to back separated by an old radio commercial... one that was heard about 10 years after this show was made, but it offers a short break between episodes.
