On October 28, 2006 a group of 9 local volunteer actors got together at Portsmouth Community Radio in Portsmouth, NH and re-created an episode of the radio series "Gunsmoke" entitled "The Guitar"... we were quite proud of our "Audio Theatre Players Group" that had only been working for about a year. We had 50 members with a wide range of talent, but all were interested in Audio Theatre. Directed and Edited by Audio Theatre host, John Lovering, we re-created about 45 shows over the 13 year stint at the radio station. This track features one of those shows. The original show starring William Conrad as Marshall Dillon and directed by Norman McDonald was aired in December of 1953.

A broadcast from the Armed Forces Radio Service to our troops overseas during WW II. Host was Ernie "Bubbles Whitman with his special guests Tiny Bradshaw and Jack Benny. Jubilee was not heard on major networks in the USA. It was strictly via shortwave on the AFRS. The program's intent was to raise the morale of African American soldiers and to highlight African American performers. The program was wildly popular with all the troops! Jubilee! Enjoy.

This is about a 10 minute clip from two separate broadcasts of The Shell Chateau Hour with host Wallace Beery. Judy Garland, at 13 (Beery incorrectly says she is 12) Her debut was on Oct. 26, 1935... She sings "Broadway Rhythm." She returns on November 16th and sings "Zing! Went the Strings of My Heart!" What a difference a month makes after working at MGM studios... but even the debut made it very clear that she had natural and powerful talent. Harry Einstein (photo) was known professionally by several pseudonyms, but mostly as Parkyakarkus, an American comedian, writer, and character actor. He became famous as the Greek chef Nick Parkyakarus on the Eddie Cantor and Al Jolson radio shows and later on his own show "Meet Me at Parky's" The show began in 1945 on NBC until 1947 when it moved to the Mutual Broadcasting System (MBS). Einstein wrote the scripts for the show and had a great supporting cast including Sheldon Leonard, Elliot Lewis and Betty Rhodes. Rhodes was the show's female singer as well as doing supporting character roles. This show is their Thanksgiving Celebration show from November 23, 1947. Sitcom.

On Feb. 6, 2010 a group of local volunteer actors including: Jason Daniel Roberts, James C. Darling, Diane Ficarra, Jean Proulx, and Bruce Allen came together to re-create the Sherlock Holmes radio show entitled, "The Adventure of the Tolling Bell" The program was directed and edited by John Lovering and was recorded in a home studio to be later broadcast on his Audio Theatre program that aired on Portsmouth Community Radio for 13 years from 2004-16.

The Jack Benny Program on radio was the most popular radio comedy ever...931 episodes over a period of 30 years! Besides fantastic writing, Jack was supported by an outstanding cast of characters who actually portrayed radio versions of themselves: Eddie (Rochester) Anderson, Mary Livingston (Jack's real life spouse), Dennis Day, Phil Harris, Mel Blanc, Frank Nelson, Don Wilson and many outstanding guests. In this Thanksgiving show from 1939, Jack, always trying to save money (in real life he was a philanthropist), he tried to get a bargain on a turkey.

Yukon King and Sgt. Preston head out to celebrate Thanksgiving with a preacher who lives in the wilderness, but the "celebration" turns out to be a rescue mission in the 15 minute episode from the popular station WXYZ adventure series "Challenge of the Yukon." Paul Sutton plays Sgt. Preston and Dewey Cole plays the "voice" of Yukon King the wonder dog! Photo is from the television series.

He was a hit on the Jack Benny Program and decided to try a show of his own... The Mel Blanc Show was written with one purpose in mind... to show off Mel Blanc's many vocal talents... and it succeeded in that department. He had a strong supporting cast as he played the owner of a "Fix-it-Up" Store and used his natural voice except when he was playing a variety of roles in one show... and then there was Zookie... you will here Zookie! Fun show... and a nice program for Thanksgiving!

Jubilee ran from 1942 to 1953 and was aimed as a morale-building service for African-American troops and aired for military personnel. The show was hosted by Ernie "Bubbles" Whitman, yet it was never broadcast on commercial radio. Most of the shows originated from Los Angeles at network studios.
