Interesting to hear the request to aid the coming WW II efforts through grocery shopping... saving easy to preserve foods for the troops and buying fresh fruits, vegetables and such at home. Show stars Art Van Harvey as Victor Gook, Bernardine Flynn as Sade Gook, and Bill Idelson as Rush Gook, their adopted son. It has been reported that Paul Rhymer wrote about 5000 scripts of this series. The Gooks were know as "America's Home Folks!"... it is all about the dialog... very little sound effects or music... just down to earth dialog... brilliantly written by Paul Rhymer and brilliantly acted by the vocal talents that played the roles. The character of Archie Bunker on the television hit "All in the Family" was modeled after "Archie at Duffy's Tavern. Carroll O'Connor did a remarkable job in the role... and after the "All in the Family" series ended, there was a spinoff show "Archie Bunker's Place"... a bar and Archie was the bartender. Then it'll be my turn!” - Fanny Brice She was not know for her beauty, but rather her talent as a singer and comedian, This track has a 6min skit from the Maxwell House Coffee Time show in 1938. It was doing gigs like this that got Fanny Brice her own radio show in 1944. That show was wildly popular and ran until 1951 when Fanny Brice passed away from a cerebral hemorrhage. It is difficult to provide information about Fred Allen because there is so much written about him. He was truly an iconic American Comedian. He was witty, creative, extremely generous and he made Americans laugh with some of the most creative comedy heard on radio. It was so creative, many of his routines were used by Rowan and Martin, Johnny Carson, Saturday Night Live and others. Introductory audio gives background on Fred Allen and the series "Biography in Sound"... the best documentary series ever produced for radio. Philco used a unique marketing program when this show was on the aire in 1937. The detective in the story was the first woman detective on radio... her name was Phyllis Coe, but they called her Phyl, Phyl Coe for short... brought to you by Philco!
