The radio adaptation of the Oscar-winning 1951 film "African Queen" starring Humphrey Bogart and Kathryn Hepburn. Bogart re-creates his Best Actor Award character, Charlie Allnut... captain of the African Queen and Greer Garson plays the role of Rose Sayer, the missionary (played in the film by Katharine Hepburn. This is a well-done radio adaptation of a terrific movie. This will be found in the "Drama-Adventure" Playlist.

But once she falls asleep, the phone rings… and then the "fun" begins! 50 episodes were produced. Ten shows were syndicated and rerun on Mutual Radio Network in 1950. These shows often had a supernatural twist to them. Director was Anton M. Leder... a brilliant director of horror and suspense shows. Raymond Morgan is the announcer. Charles Paul is the organist, who is very effective in creating the right mood at the right time! Many shows used organists because it was cheaper to hire an organist and an orchestra... and even saved money on sound effects as the organ could create so many emotions, especially if the organist was as talented as Charles Paul was.... Intro to the skit includes a detailed history of Fanny Brice and her career... also included is my experience with teaching groups of 7 to 12 year-olds about the Golden Age of Radio during a summer camp between 2006-2011. The students wrote and produced their own radio show with sound effects and music.. and it was broadcast on a local station. One of the characters I used to motivate the was Fanny Brice as Baby Snooks... In this skit from the Maxwell House Coffee time in 1941, Daddy is taking Snooks and her little brother Robespierre to have their photographs taken by a professional photographer! Two back-to-back episodes of "Superman" from 1940. "Clark Kent is Captured by the Wolfe" and "Kent is Imprisoned" - February 19th and 21st respectively in 1940. The serial came to radio as a syndicated show on New York City's WOR on February 12, 1940. On Mutual, it was broadcast from August 31, 1942, to February 4, 1949, as a 15-minute serial, running three or, usually, five times a week. From February 7 to June 24, 1949, it ran as a three times a week half-hour show. The series shifted to ABC Saturday evenings on October 29, 1949, and then returned to afternoons twice a week on June 5, 1950, continuing on ABC until March 1, 1951. In all, 2,088 original episodes of The Adventures of Superman aired on American radio. Though it was considered a juvenile adventure series, parents listened as well... television and films have kept Superman going for 80 years! This track will be house in the "Superman" Playlist

Based on the wonderful short stories of Damon Runyon, a talented sports writer, and outstanding journalist, and short story writer based in New York City. Some of his most famous stories were made into Broadway shows and/or films like "Guys and Dolls", "A Pocket Full of Miracles," "Lady for a Day," "The Lemon Drop Kid and Little Miss Marker" There were even Damon Runyon Theater syndicated television shows in the mid-1950's. The Narrator is called "Broadway" played by actor John Brown (Digger O'Dell in "The Life of Riley). Strong Brooklyn accent done remarkably well.
