Host Tom Howard (photo facing chalkboard), "Experts" (photo L to R) Gene Shelton, Lulu McConnell, and Harry McNaughton... Created by Bob and Ruth Howell, It Pays To Be Ignorant" was one of the dumbest and stupidest shows ever to hit the air. The cast was made up of retired vaudeville/Broadway/film comedy stars that made the shows almost painfully predictable but always funny. The "Experts" would often launch into a mass of arguments, insults and gags to the anger and frustration of the host, Tom Howard... who vainly tried to bring his maniacs back under control. In this episode of "Space Patrol" a brilliant scientist conceives a method of inflating atmosphere shells in space made of 'electroplast', but his jealous former colleague plans to sabotage the project. Commander Corry's central office at Space Patrol headquarters on Terra is where the story begins as Cadet Happy is puzzling over some reports from security section and he tells Buzz that "No, I can't make head or tails of this thing..." This show was broadcast just 3 days before Japan surrendered and World War II ended. Songstress, Francis Langford hosts the show which features Spike Jones and His City Slickers and singer Tony Romano. Francis Langford had done many overseas shows for the USO during WW II and was very popular with the servicemen. The show comes from an Army-Air-Force base in Sacramento, California. As usual, Spike Jones and His City Slickers play a few tunes as only Spike Jones and His City Slickers could play them... Francis Langford gets in a couple of numbers as well. All and all an enjoyable show with music and a comedy skit. Spike and the crew play "Siam I Am" and "Blue Danube" ... sort of! :) The show ends with a medley of songs with Francis, Tony, and Spike Jones. John Dehner stars as Paladin in the radio version of "Have Gun Will Travel." The series broadcast 106 episodes on the CBS Radio Network between November 23, 1958 and November 27, 1960. It was one of the last radio dramas featuring continuing characters and the only significant American radio adaptation of a television series in which Richard Boone played a very different type of Paladin. The show was unique in that it originated on television and was adapted to radio. Most shows originated on radio and adapted to television. Both the adaptations were excellent primarily because the character of Paladin was played in a uniquely different way in each of the series.
