"Kenny, I’m enjoying the videos but I do have a couple of questions. I have been flying business jets for the last 15 years and have recently decided to get my commercial helicopter add on.

1. Since I have been flying strictly IFR for the last 15 years, should I start out with the private videos and then progress to the commercial? Or will the commercial cover everything I need to know for my check ride?

2. A helicopter driving friend of mine suggested that I could get my private, instrument, and my commercial ratings for not much more money than my commercial add on due to the large amount of solo that I need for my add on. What are your thoughts?

Dave goes in to great detail with his explanation of the Autorotation Entry in the Robinson R-22. A good set up is always key to every manuever, and the autorotation is no exception.

What I think is really powerful is how Dave makes sure that the Helicopter Student understands you must add a small amount of aft cyclic when you enter the Autorotation! Otherwise the nose drops and the typical student will start chasing rpm and airspeed all the way down to the end!

I got the course about two months ago and I started working my way through it. And then, of course, the last week before the Check-Ride I kind of was freaking out and, so, I did a lot of cramming with it. And I was really concerned about the oral part of my Check-Ride.

Welcome to the introduction to the Commercial Pilot Practical Test standards. Hello, I'm Kenny Keller the creator of Helicopter Online Ground School and Author of the Amazon No. 1 Best Seller Helicopter Check Ride. People are sometimes surprised to find out that the Private Pilot Check Ride and the Commercial Pilot Check Rides are very similar.

I can remember back when I was at that point. I'm searching around going, "Where's the new material? What else is there new for commercial?"

When you're going from private pilot to commercial pilot there's a difference with privileges and limitations. What you can do as a commercial pilot versus a private pilot. The majority of the content is pretty much the same stuff.

Over the years I had people say, "Private and commercial, they can't be the same." They're very similar.

Commercial Pilot Intro Helicopter Online Ground School

Privileges and limitations are different. What I want to tell you is what I've heard my examiner say over the last fifteen years many times.

He'll say,

"Okay. You were here for your private pilot check ride. At the private level you were here to get your Helicopter License. Take up your friends. Take up your family. Now you're coming back to me as a commercial applicant. The commercial piot check ride is different in the fact that it's going to be a more serious helicopter check ride."

At the private level they want to make sure you're going to be safe. At the commercial level they dig deeper in your knowledge. You're going to take the aircraft out and fly closer to the limitations.

You're going to be getting in situations that most private pilots. That's the real truth. Private and commercial are very similar.

With that being said. I want to reiterate this with what the FAA says about it. The commercial pilot Rotorcraft Practical Test standards have been designed to evaluate competency in both knowledge and skill.

Commercial pilots are professionals engaged in various flight activities for compensation or hire. Because of their professional statues they should exhibit a significantly higher level of knowledge and skill than that of the private pilot. Although some tasks listed are similar to those in the Private Pilot Rotorcraft Practical Test Standards. The wording used in the Commercial Pilot Rotorcraft Practical Test Standards reflects a higher level of competency expected of a commercial pilot applicant in performing these similar tasks.

Kind of going along with what I'm saying. They're still very similar but there are differences. It's a more serious check ride. You have to know everything to a higher standard. In the next video, we're going to go through the PTS and talk about the differences between the private and commercial check rides.
