Writer MARK BOWLES gives us all his precious Infernal Playlist tracks...
Mark is the author of the Goldsmiths Prize nominated novel All My Precious Madness, which was lauded by critics. It's an incredibly funny book - The Guardian compared it to American comedian Bill Hicks - and Mark did not disappoint with a full-on assault on the 1980s in this episode. He talked us through the process of writing the book, welcomed news that an 1980s double act now hate each other, and of course gave us the five tracks he will meet in Hell.

You'll also get our two pilot episodes, and a bunch of other stuff depending which tier you pick - including the chance to come and work for Hell's H.R. department! If you just want to be nice/bribe your way out of Hell then you can also tip us over at https://www.ko-fi.com/hellishpod
You can order All My Precious Madness direct from Galley Beggar (rather than from somewhere else: you'd be helping a small independent press to thrive). https://www.galleybeggar.co.uk/paperback-shop/all-my-precious-madness

Behold! Actor and director TOM BRITTNEY gives us the five tracks he will meet in Hell!
Tom is an incredible actor with a CV to match: Outlander, Grantchester, Greyhound, UnReal... He's now turned director, with two short films under his belt and a feature upcoming. We talked about that, as well as his secret dreadlocked past, tattoos, meeting Dolly Parton, tearing Henry Cavill's Superman suit, and of course, his six years as TV vicar Will Davenport in smash hit crime drama Grantchester.

We did a spot of enchanting and got writer JOANNE HARRIS to give us the five tracks she will meet in Hell!
Joanne is a prolific writer, having authored over twenty novels, several cookbooks, and a multitude of short stories. (Her latest collection, Maiden, Mother, Crone is out now in paperback, with art by our former damned soul Bonnie Hawkins). Her third novel, Chocolat, is an international bestseller and was adapted into a film starring Juliette Binoche.
She's vocalist and flautist with The Storytime Band, a group she has been in since she was a teenager, and she is also an expert shed wrangler (we talk more about this in the episode too).
The photograph of Joanne in the episode artwork is by Kyte Photography

We grill comedian and all-round enthusiast ROBIN INCE for the five tracks he will meet in Hell!
Robin has been a stand-up comedian since the early nineties. He is the author of several books, including I'm A Joke And So Are You and Bibliomaniac, and is the co-creator and co-presenter, with Professor Brian Cox, of BBC Radio 4's The Infinite Monkey Cage. That barely scratches the surface of what Robin does, however: The Guardian called Robin a 'becardiganed polymath' which just about covers it.
Robin talked to us about writing poetry, being in a band, doing comedy in the 90s, vegetarianism, finding his niche, the Scala cinema, meeting George Michael, why he can't drive, AND he gave us seven songs instead of the usual five. He also talked about how he deals with social media pile-ons, and media storms - following this recent interview where he talked about being bullied by Ricky Gervais.

We press publisher and writer SAM JORDISON for the five tracks he will meet in Hell!
Sam is one half of Galley Beggar Press, the small independent publisher with a bunch of big hits to its name: Eimear McBride's Women's Prize winning A Girl is a Half Formed Thing, Lucy Ellman's Booker-shortlisted Ducks, Newburyport and Alex Pheby's Cities of the Weft trilogy to name but a few.
Sam talked us through what it's like to found and then run a small press, including the economic challenges, and sifting through the submissions pile. He also talked about his writing career, including the now-legendary Crap Towns series.

Historian NATALIA MEHLMAN PETRZELA runs through the five tracks she will meet in Hell.
Quite aside from being a Professor of History at the New School, Natalia is the author of two books: Classroom Wars, and Fit Nation, the latter of which takes a fascinating look at the history of exercise as leisure in the United States. She's also a qualified fitness instructor, and a seasoned podcaster: she co-presents the excellent history show Past Present, and was the host of Welcome to your Fantasy, the hit true crime podcast about the Chippendales strip troupe.
Natalia's current podcast series, Extreme: Muscle Men, is about a steroid ring in 1980s California, and is a must listen. Check it out here.
