Helping Dream Jobs Find Their Matches with Steph Gillies

Listen Later

Job seekers have much more in common with salespeople and marketers than they think. Because every time they apply for a job, they are selling themselves.

In this episode, I'm joined by the fabulous Steph Gillies, Resume Branding Expert, LinkedIn Profile Strategist, and Career Story Coach. She is the Founder and CEO of Avant Resume Designs. After high school, Steph wasn't sure what she wanted to do or be, so she decided to explore a bit. 35 different jobs later, she had only two certainties: she wanted to help people and work for herself.

Throughout this episode, Steph talks about the importance of personal branding for job seekers, how to market ourselves when looking for a job, and why she became a professional resume writer. We delve into the dos and don'ts of writing resumes, common mistakes, and tools available to enhance job searches.

In addition, Steph shared her thoughts on remote work, how to transition to an industry in which we don't have experience, her predictions for the job market in 2023, and much more.

In This Episode, You Will Learn:

  • A bit about Steph's journey of discovering her true calling (2:55)
  • The things you shouldn't write in your resume (8:31)
  • The pros and cons of remote work (15:13)
  • Salary range. Should you include it in your resume? (20:19)
  • How to deal with being laid off from your job (24:32)
  • Why personal branding is essential to job seekers (27:04)
