    #368. Onafhankelijke geluidskunst, radiofonische projecten en andere audio-non-visuele misverstanden en vondsten. Two new radiopieces, one Worm/Klangendum production by Tisa Neža Herlec and the other one from the Radia.fm network.

    1. The prism: to swarm, to fish, to school.
 By Tisa Neža Herlec.

    2. RADADAR: a multimedia digestive circuit.

    more info;

    1. The radio piece “The prism: to swarm, to fish, to school” was recorded at Worm’s sound studio, guided by a semiotic vision:

    “A school of fish is swarming in the water. Their movement is rapid, dynamic, consistent, governed by a natural order, flow. Suddenly and silently a fishnet bursts into the water, engulfs a portion of the fish and the human drags them onto the surface. They will die, be gutted and cleaned, sold, bought, consumed, perhaps discarded. The net makes the fish become a part of a system of processing and consumption, a system different from their natural ecosystem they constituted. The net imposes a structure onto their being. The remaining fish recurrently reorganize themselves, schooling forward as if nothing had happened.”

    My bio:

    I, Tisa Neža Herlec (1996, Ljubljana) work with my voice, sound-making devices, materials and meaning – performing, writing, making, collaborating, communicating, composing and contemplating. Through metaphors, sensoric hallucinations and haptic experiences I attempt to outline glimpses of the truth, engaging in praxis of flow, sensibility and improvisation. I am fascinated by systems and dynamics between agents. This year, I am finishing my master studies of Experimental publishing at Piet Zwart Institute in Rotterdam. I regularly exhibit and perform around Europe.

    2. There were many Dada’s. They have inhabited different cities, were named with many names, some were left unknown, others nameless. Borderlessness is written all over Dada’s body. She is not offended and she makes offenses. Directing infinity back to its own beginnings makes Dada capable of recurrently establishing clarity. Crossing and dismantling sense out of borders and limits – we know them as obstacles, as constraints, as objects to walk over, dodge and evade. For its destruction and digestion we need Dada that takes the principle of “kakortedragost” (“asyouplease” – the concept of Dragan Aleksić) to break through the ingrained structures of power.

    RADADAR: a multimedia digestive circuit performative installation took place on 17th December 2020 in Ljubljana, Slovenia as an annual event of Radio Student’s open radio (art-theory) investigative platform RADAR (www.radiostudent.si/radar), hosted by Cirkulacija2, a basement echo chamber residing below the city’s main street. Trespassing the hours of the official curfew that the residents of the city must obey, the circuit comes to life. It is being fed by a messy archive of photo slides. Memories from another time are being chewed, consumed, processed, transformed and mutated. Humans along with analog and digital machines intervene into the past. Artefacts are being dragged out of the abyss of oblivion. Their materiality serves as a point of departure, the exit strategy is a creation of an experience for everyone and everything involved. The comment section of the website was being read by a synthetic voice, directly feeding comments into the circuit.  The audience intervened and dadaised. The memories were calling for a situated reconfiguration.

    Concept was created by Mojca Zupančič and Tisa Neža Herlecin collaboration with Urška Savič, Sašo Puckovski, Luka Seliškar, Anja Hrovatič, Borut Savski, Stefan Doepner, Ana Lorger, Saša Hajzler, Kristina Pranjić and Matej Kavčič. (Arte)facts were given by mommy Annie, daddy Urosh and dear godmother, scenocollages by Matija Drobne – Maco. Tehnical support was provided by Jurij Podgoršek, Linč and the RTVŠ crew. Special thanks to Cirkulacija2, Blaž Božič and Bojan Anđelković!

    A homage to the 100 years of the Dada Fair (Berlin, 1920) and to Modri kot.

    Een tweetal hoorspelen , de eerste gemaakt door oud-Wormer, tegenwoordig werkzaam in Glasgow, Eothen Stearn, een stuk voor Radiophrenia, de tweede een Radia.fm stuk van onze vrienden uit de USA -Wave Farm- ‘Useful Radio’. Altijd handig.

    MORE INFO;

    Sentient by Eothen Stearn

    A person is jogging around a burial mound, near to a standing stone circle. They run, using their phone to navigate over tombs and rocks passing inscriptions and woodland.

    They spot a naked woman floating in the river. Her body is creating an interference….

    Sentient, a new commissioned work that ruminates on someone being on the same patch of land 12,000 years apart.

    It’s narrative is circular and the score possesses a state of slippage; from neolithic quasi-time travel, to AI and other fluid immaterial states.

    Eo has written specific new drum rhythms for this commission and has produced sounds with her voice, limbs and musical apparatus.

    The drums, percussion, choral chanting and broken narrative represent the past.

    The synths, looped stems, field recordings and other instrumentation, present day.

    There is a spiritual dimension, which is a continuation of Eo’s research on musical lamentations and Gregorian Chants.

    Alongside this sober state, there is also a playfulness and strong emphasis on the power of an imagination.

    Recorded by Eothen Stearn. Additional recording and mix by Chris White. Thanks to Radiophrenia!

    Eothen Stearn is an interdisciplinary artist living in Glasgow, playing in bands NIGHTSHIFT, 2PLY and DIFFICULT.

    #366. Onafhankelijke geluidskunst, radiofonische projecten en andere audio-non-visuele misverstanden en vondsten. With a new and an old Worm production; Water Saus by Lili Huston-Herterich & Ash Kilmartin and Truus Makes Waves by Truus de Groot.

    Water Saus by Lili Huston-Herterich & Ash Kilmartin.

    Water Saus is an audio work by Ash Kilmartin and Lili Huston-Herterich, produced during the development of their collaborative exhibition of the same title. The work began as the sketch of an invented character—a poet who writes in the shower, as a way to compose (in) privacy—but transformed into a journal of writing and making together. The recordings travel across Rotterdam, from one studio to another to home and back again, as the artists chat, eat, piss, sing in the shower, make moulds for soap, and compare playlists and book collections.

    Lili Huston-Herterich is an American-Canadian artist who runs the project space Available & The Rat in her apartment. Ash Kilmartin is an artist from Aotearoa New Zealand and the founder of a shop called LIFE. They both live in Rotterdam.
    This is a Radio Worm/Klangendum production.

    Written by Truus de Groot (aka Geertruda De Groot Hrnjak) 2012.

    Truus Makes waves.

    An autobiographical opera by Truus de Groot. About her earliest years in the US. Dealing with the isolation and loneliness through her ongoing often humorous audio observations that she has collected over the years.
    The piece starts out with Truus reading form her Diary in 1980, shortly before her departure to the US. Just minor observations of a 20 year old, nothing special yet a moment in time. Not really a clue she would be going to the US mere months later, never to call the Netherlands her home again.
    It was an adventure looking back for her, but at that time these were just impulsive decisions. Never thinking twice, why am I doing this? Is there future here?? What will I do? Her first stop was a connection she made on a whim in Eindhoven, David Linton, who lived in Tribeca, NY. His roommate was Lee Renaldo, who was at that time painting. From there her US journey began.
    In her isolation she could see the absurd humor of a culture that was so new to her. The many hours spent just looking at people, their silly habits, crazy public fights, moody encounters, make this opera a time capsule of sorts. It also conveys her frustrations of being harassed endlessly by the prying eyes of males that feasted their eyes on a beautiful yet naive young immigrant.
    However bothersome that might have been, Truus always translated it into humorous musical reflections. It is not dark yet perhaps a bit cynical, but full of irony.
    It travels from 1979 to up to around 1990’s.

    #365. Onafhankelijke geluidskunst, radiofonische projecten en andere audio-non-visuele misverstanden en vondsten. La Paz Outsiders.

    We asked our man in La Paz, Mr Kokote, to make us a soundpiece about his whereabouts;

    “In this special episode produced and recorded in La Paz, Bolivia, Nicola Kokote shows how is to be an Argentine living in a city ‘which is 4000 metres high’. A dizziness induced radio piece full of weird sounds and surprises. From the ancient Andean tunes of the Aymara people to the garage fuzz rock of the psychedelic “psicofasica” era, screw up cumbia tunes, evangelican christian singers and  soundscapes of markets and noisy streets of La Paz this piece delivers an unique multi-fi experience which reflects both the earieness and the surrealistic feeling of living in one of the highest cities in the world.”

    Produced by Nicola Kokote.

    Dedicated to Cor Fuhler, Sean Baxter with inspiration from AMPLIFY’s DJ Screw atmospheres.

Recorded August 9 and 16 by Buzz Pringle in Sydney.

The image was taken in Redfern during the bushfires that preceded COVID-19. The smoke kept us inside for weeks during summer. Lockdown has become a kind of norm.

    ===================

    This music was recorded on stolen Gadigal land. This music is made with respect to the Traditional Owners of the Eora Nation, and all elders, past, present and emerging. I want to recognise that sovereignty over this land was never ceded.

    Released August 23, 2020.

    2. Jim Denley – For Cor.

    Flutes – Jim Denley.

During the pandemic I’ve opened the windows of my Potts Point apartment most afternoons, setting up a couple of mics and playing with the sound of the city. This recording is one of those afternoons, 5/5/20. The recordings were largely a diary for my own use, but when Jon Abbey asked me for something, it suddenly got less anchorite.

    In late February my good friend, the brilliant musician Cor Fuhler, was extremely sick in ICU Hornsby Hospital, and then in the general ward when he got better. From mid March we couldn’t see him much because of rules to do with the lockdown. During April and May he improved in a miraculous way, so at the time of this recording we were extremely hopeful about his future. He was too.

    My room is is a very open enclosure, high up above Woolloomooloo Bay, with views of war ships, city skyline and dominated sonically by a noisy avian counterculture.

    The music I made was a solitary and meditative activity, but Cor was on my mind, almost all the time, at that time. And listening to it now in August, it took me back to that time when Cor was still with us.

    3. Will Montgomery – Lubender .

    While on holiday in the west of England in the last week of July, I gained access to a pipe organ in a former Methodist chapel. The feeling of airiness in this high-ceilinged space after months of lockdown in a small London flat was uplifting. It was enhanced by the sound of air rushing through the pipes of the instrument. I set up mics close to the organ and high up at the back of the room, and made some recordings.

    Recorded and produced July 12th-23rd, 2020 in Melbourne.

Bath Time (2nd Edit) is a four-part composition that considers my daughter’s and my own nightly/weekly bathing routines through the composed and shifting acoustic perspectives of the open air space above our bathtub, the inside chamber of a large vase situated in the corner of our bathroom, and the material vibrations of our ceramic bathroom wall, acrylic bathtub shell and the water contained water within.

Recorded at my house in Munich, in the afternoon of July 14, 2020
Edited and composed in the morning of July 15, 2020

The piece was assembled out of three improvisations with the Revox tape recorder, inputing field-recordings, found sounds, contact microphones, feedback and a digital FM synthesizer. It starts so abruptly because I only remembered to push the record button halfway through the first take.

This music hasn’t been mastered. Please adjust your volume accordingly – louder then usual, I guess -.
