As part of a broader commitment to environmental sustainability, AAA is launching its 13th annual Batteries for Trees campaign. The initiative will plant one new tree for every battery replaced by either its Emergency Roadside Service Team or at any AAA Car Care location. The goal is to reach a total of 61,500 trees planted through the program during its 13 years of existence, an addition of 11,500 from the current 12-year total of 50,000. A Deep Run High School graduate and current University of Richmond student won the men's Ukrop's Monument Avenue 10k race in Richmond April 20, turning in the best time among more than 24,000 participants. Jordan Bendura, 22, of Glen Allen, and current cross-country standout at UR, finished seven seconds ahead of Stuart Terrill, who ran the race in 30:26. James Christopher Dreelin, 69, of Henrico, Virginia passed away on April 8, 2024. Known as “Chris” to family and friends, he was a steel detailer by trade, but a fisherman by passion. He lived the motto that “a bad day at the beach is better than a good day at work”. For a quarter-century, Henrico County Public Schools has been recognized nationally for its tradition of music education excellence. Terry D. Ely, 67, of Henrico, VA., passed away April 15, 2024. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Virginia Ely. The Capital Region Land Conservancy April 19 received the 2024 Governor's Environmental Excellence Award during the Environment Virginia Symposium at Virginia Military Institute in Lexington. The award was given in recognition of CRLC's protection of the core area of the New Market Heights Battlefield. John Douglas “Doug" Smith, 62 of Henrico, VA, beloved husband, father, and brother, passed away on April 12, 2024 at the Bon Secours Hospice House.
