Robison B. "Rob" James, 92, passed away peacefully on February 8, 2024. Born in Dade City, Florida, Rob grew up in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Rob’s life was grounded in a bedrock faith and characterized by an irrepressible optimism. As a boy he delivered newspapers, a career ending only when he accepted his first church ministry at age 20. He graduated from the University of Alabama, where he was first chair trumpet in “The Million Dollar Band,” then attended Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. Mountain Road will be closed between Mountain Glen Parkway and Woodman Road, beginning Monday, Feb. 26, for the replacement of storm drainage culvert pipes. The road is expected to reopen at the end of March, when Henrico’s Department of Public Works anticipates the project will be completed. While work is underway, a detour will direct motorists to use Purcell Road and Terry Drive. The improvements are designed to prevent future flooding on Mountain.Article Link

A new customs screening facility at Richmond International Airport to allow for direct international commercial passenger flights is expected to open in April. "It's good to see that the facility comes back online because you know, we'll be able to check all the boxes," Richmond International Airport Spokesperson Troy Bell said. The years-long revamp was required after airport officials were told in 2019 that the nearly 20-year-old customs screening area in Terminal B did not meet federal standards. After months of little change, gas prices have begun to rise again. This week, the national average price for pump fuel rose by 12 cents to .27 per gallon of unleaded gas, an increase of 21 cents from last month but a decrease of 14 cents when compared to a year ago. The average price of gas in Virginia is .23 per gallon, which is up 19 cents from last week but down two cents from this time last year. Some lanes of I-64 will be closed beneath Pemberton Road Feb. 15-16 and 18-22, as Virginia Department of Transportation crews work to repair the Pemberton Road overpass. Alternating double right or double left lane closures will be in place on I-64 eastbound from 10 p.m. Feb. 15 to 6 a.m. Feb. 16. Then, similar lane closures will be in effect on I-64 westbound from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Feb. 18 through 22. A tractor-trailer crashed on the off-ramp of I-64 East at West Broad Street in Short Pump Thursday morning, forcing the closure of the ramp and eastbound West Broad Street. Henrico Police reported that the closure was expected to last for an extended period of time to allow hazardous materials cleanup. Two people were taken to a local hospital with serious but non life-threatening injuries.Article Link
