The Henrico School Board will receive an update from Henrico Schools leaders on the division’s "Career Ladder" program during a 3:30 p.m. work session on Feb. 22. Implemented during the 2022-2023 school year, the Career Ladder allows certain full-time staff members such as teachers, school nurses, counselors, and instructional coaches to receive pay increases based on their certifications. On Feb. 8, students at Tuckahoe Middle School cheered on their classmates of all abilities as they faced off against another unified basketball team from Quioccasin Middle School. Athletes on the school’s inclusive basketball team were beaming as their peers chanted their names and ecstatically celebrated each basket. A man suffered a life-threatening injury to his arm and chest after being shot shortly before 9 a.m. Monday in an Eastern Henrico neighborhood. It happened in the 3000 block of Stony Valley Drive, in the Stony Run Estates neighborhood just off Creighton Road. Henrico Police were dispatched to the area at 8:44 a.m., found the man and administered first aid until Henrico Fire could transport the victim to an area hospital. The Henrico Police Criminal Investigative Section is collecting evidence and interviewing witnesses but is seeking additional information from anyone who has it. A "catastrophic explosion" at a Virginia home that killed one firefighter and injured about a dozen people over the weekend may have been caused by a gas leak. Though the official cause of the explosion is still under investigation, Loudon County fire officials say they responded to a smell of gas around a home in Sterling around 7:30 Friday night. They later found a 500-pound propane tank underneath the home at the epicenter of the explosion leaking gas.
