Bridge demolition work on Interstate 95 in Henrico County will cause overnight lane closures on I 95 between Chamberlayne Avenue and the I-295 Exit (mile marker 85) from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. starting on Monday, Feb 26, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation. The project to remove the Scott Road Overpass Bridge is scheduled to be completed sometime in March. It originally was scheduled to be completed between December and January but was delayed. Henrico County Public Schools is adjusting the 2023-24 school calendar to add a staff and student holiday on Friday, March 29. The holiday will use time that had been set aside for snow days and other unexpected events. The school division “banks” instructional time each year to offset unplanned closures during inclement weather or other emergencies. When that time is not needed for weather, the superintendent can use it to create additional days off while still ensuring that HCPS meets Virginia’s requirements for instructional time. Inmates and their loved ones will not have free prison phone calls anytime soon, but lawmakers are working on legislation to keep rates low.  Del. Sam Rasoul, D-Roanoke, sponsored House Bill 801, which passed 56-41 with some Republican support. The Virginia Department of Transportation is preparing to install overhead signage on I-95 near Brook Road in Henrico, a process that will prompt overnight double lane closures and occasional slow rolls Feb. 22-23. The Virginia Department of Emergency Management has announced that the statewide tornado drill, originally scheduled for March 5, has been moved to Thursday, March 7, to make way for the Virginia primary elections. The drill is now set for 9:45 a.m. that day.
