The Greater Richmond Community Mediation Center, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, recently opened. The virtual center has a roster of mediators with a variety of expertise, and offers alternative dispute resolution services such as mediation, facilitation, negotiation, arbitration, conciliation, community dialogues, judicial/court mediation, conflict coaching and difficult family conversations. Meetings can focus on employer/employee issues, building group consensus, consumer disputes, homeowners’ associations, neighbor disputes and more. GRCMC also provides education and training. The West End Islamic Center, located on Shady Grove Road in Glen Allen, is one of several nonprofits across Virginia to receive federal funds through the Nonprofit Security Grant Program. The Virginia Department of Emergency Management recently announced recipients of the grants, which provide funding support for target hardening and other physical security enhancements and activities to eligible nonprofit organizations. Henrico Police officials are searching for a missing man from Hanover County who they say is endangered. Kevin Shaw was last seen in the 10000 block of Brook Road in Henrico at about 9:30 a.m. Dec. 1. His family has concerns for his safety. Shaw is described as a white male with black and gray hair, about 6 foot 2 in height and weighing about 300 pounds.  He was last seen wearing blue jeans, a bright green “Ninja Turtles” sweatshirt and green shoes. The community is mourning the death of Virginia veterinarian Dr. Locke Taylor. Taylor had served the community for more than 50 years with multiple veterinary hospitals in Central Virginia. "It is with a heavy heart that we must relay the passing of Dr. Locke Taylor," a message posted Thursday on the Locke A. Taylor and Associates Facebook page read. Franklin E. Guess, Sr., 86, of Henrico, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 25, 2023. He was preceded in death by his son, Frankie Guess, Jr. Frank served in the U.S. Navy from 1955 to 1963. He loved coaching softball, playing ping pong, checkers, and board games. Frank enjoyed watching sports, especially boxing. He also loved doing yardwork and sitting in the sun. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Shirley A.
