Ray Howard Jr., 79, of Sandston, passed away on Friday, September 15, 2023. He is preceded in death by his wife, Connie Howard; daughter, Vickie Ellis; and beloved dog, Gizmo. Beverly Tessler Gary, born February 9, 1924, passed away peacefully on September 19 at her residence at Sholom Gardens (formerly Beth Sholom Gardens) in Henrico County, Virginia, at age 99. A Virginia Commonwealth University professor and a partner are developing a new THC breathalyzer that could be used to quickly detect if someone is driving under the influence of cannabis. VCU professor Emanuele Alves, who has a doctorate in forensic science, partnered with Wagner Pacheco, who has a doctorate in inorganic analytical chemistry and is an associate professor at Universidade Federal Fluminense.
