Renovations to the waiting area and restrooms at Amtrak’s Staples Mill station in Henrico County will begin Aug. 21 and continue through September. Most construction work will take place at night, but some may happen during operational hours, according to Amtrak officials. The renovation work will limit seating and restrict or limit access to station amenities (including the restrooms) as it continues, they said. Several months after announcing plans to do so for the second consecutive year, the Henrico Board of Supervisors earlier this month formally voted to to return .2 million in surplus taxes to residential and business property owners. Juanita Floy Page Wilkerson of Varina, VA passed away at her home on Thursday August 10th, 2023. Born April 28,1925 in Morganton, NC, as the third child of Floy Ray Kincaid and Marshall Page. A 1942 graduate of Drexel High School, Juanita worked in a hosiery mill during the war. She and her husband, Tom, met on a train during World War II, corresponding through love letters until their marriage on September 10th, 1945, eventually making Richmond their home. Air conditioning units were down in at least 23 Henrico schools, with five schools having almost no AC schoolwide, according to a significant number of reports made by school employees this week. Henrico Schools’ facilities team has completed work on the AC units at eight schools, but is still working on broken AC units in 15 schools.
